This album is very much a departure from Beck's usual mellow and soulful singer-songwriter approach. Citing influences as disparate as Captain Beefheart and Prince, Beck examines late 90's Hollywood's obsession with celebrity, sexuality and excess consumption. The album has aged exceptionally well over the last 14 years and remains as relevant, poignant and downright funky as when it was recorded, perhaps even more so.
