Beatles-Rel LP 1969 Modern Jazz Quartet Under the Jasmine Tree Apple Record Club SCARCE!

Beatles collectors know that there were only three Apple titles that were offered through the Capitol Record Club.  Two were the Modern Jazz Quartet’s Apple titles, and the third was Mary Hopkin, Postcard.

Record Club catalogue numbers for Apple inserted the numeral “5,” as opposed to Capitol’s numeral 8.

Vinyl--- Strong VG.  You might be forgiven if you grade this copy VG+.  Side 1 has just a few very light lines.  Side 2 is in the same condition, with two light scuffs that can’t be felt with the fingertip.

*Please note that I had tried to get accurate photos of these scuffs, but for some reason, my camera kept glossing them.  Probably due to the light source, these photos show the vinyl better than it is.

Still a very good piece of vinyl!

Plates--- ST1-5-3353 H1, 2/ ST2-5-3353 H2, 2

Cover--- VG.  As mentioned in the “Space” listing, Record Club covers were made with inferior cardboard.  This cover has top and bottom seam splits about three inches each, and slick loss.  Moderate dirtwear.  Price sticker affixed to the back cover, top left corner.

This cover bears all the hallmarks of Record Club covers.  Three diagonal black lines at the top left, and the extra numeral “5” inserted into the catalogue number at the top right front cover and the top left corner on the back.  Interestingly, the top left number on the front cover retains the commercially-released catalogue number without the “5.”

Labels--- EX/EX.  Beautiful full-gloss labels, as opposed to the commercially-released semi-gloss labels.

Because of the high gloss, there are manufacturer’s defects on each side, mainly where the gloss had cracked on the Side 1 label.  The Side 2 label is pock-marked from gloss bubbles popping.

Concentric groove is much closer to the playhole, very similar to Decca consignment discs.  This placement is characteristic of Record Club discs.  See compere photo of the labels with a commercially-released copy on the “Space” auction, since I don’t own a commercially-released copy of this title.

Inner Sleeve--- EX.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show through.  NO SEAM SPLITS.  Slightly yellowed, and I mean slightly.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Record Club inner sleeve en route.

RIAA--- 16.  This is the only Apple Record Club title to feature an RIAA number.

CAUTION!  There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids.  A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.

Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
