Beatles-Rel. 45 Ringo Starr Beaucoups of Blues UNHEARD OF “Mfd. By” BOTH Sides, EX!

I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

This is the earliest example of an Apple title with “Mfd. By Apple” on both sides that I’ve come across so far.  And it’s the only copy I’ve ever seen.  And it’s the only time I’ve ever seen any copy of this title with the disclaimer on the Side 1 label at all.

Issued in 1970, the 1971 labels hadn’t even had a chance to circulate, that had the “Mfd. By Apple” disclaimer on the A-side.

In addition, the single makes use of the nearly non-existent Jacksonville label variations.  The Side 1 label uses rounded font, whereas the more common Jacksonville pressing uses the more familiar squared-off font.  See compere photo. Side 2 label has the title at the top in the upper-left shoulder of the sliced Apple with the longer dash.  The far more commonly-known Jacksonville label positions the title in the bottom to the left of the stem, with the short dash, and the word, “Stereo” added.  Both labels are out of Jacksonville.  You never see this one.

(By the way, I’ve always held that had Ringo had more confidence in his songwriting abilities, he should have issued “Coochy-Coochy” as the A-Side, and he would have easily cracked the Top 40. What a fun song!

The country charts weren’t about to play a song by an ex-Beatle in 1970, and the pop charts weren’t going to plug a country record by an ex-Beatle with “Let It Be” still riding high.

“Coochy-Coochy” would have been the perfect crossover hit.  If it resembles country music at all, it sounds like a cross between great rock and roll and a hard porch music jam session.  If you’ve never listened to this great track, do yourself a favor and head over to YouTube.  It’ll pull you in by your ears, starting with that amazing bass intro that pops harmonics all over the place, with Ringo come pounding in.  You’ll love it.)

Vinyl: EX/EX.  Side 1 shines like new with just a couple light anomalies.  Side 2 has a small patch embedded into the vinyl.  Flat against the playing surface, this patch doesn’t affect play at all.  See photos.

Plates: Z8/Z8.  Letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Labels: EX/EX.  Just a couple of Jacksonville’s over-gloss cracks in the labels that we usually see.

Picture Sleeve: G. I’m tossing in an extra sleeve that I have here.  It has some serious creases and moderate ringwear, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.  Features the incorrect catalogue number below the Apple logo.

**Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.**

This is definitely a scarce 45.  Hate to let it go before finding a second copy, but some hardcore serious collector out there deserves to enjoy it for as long as I did!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
