You are bidding on 2 original LP Mono records released by the Beatles on the 7th of December 1968, known as simply "The Beatles" or by its more common name "The White album". The "PMC" code here proves that it is a Mono copy as a Stereo version would start "PCS" Please note that such a low number is very hard to find, especially in this kind of condition!!!

Information and grading of the LP;

The cover is numbered 0005348. This is a limited edition Mono record, unlike the normal Stereo used for most apple labeled records f this era.

It is a laminated, top opening cover which proves that it is one of the very first of its kind ever made.

The records both have the "Sold in UK subject to..."etc printed on them from 1968.

The original black inner sleeve's are in Very good condition as graded by the record collectors guide (as all my LP's are). One sleeve has a small split to the middle but there is no other split's in them. There are of course a couple of creases.

Included are the 1968 glossy prints of the fab four, still in pristine condition as they have never been put on a wall or really looked at in all these years. Please note that these are totally original and not just put in there to bump up the price, as is the poster.

Also with this package is the huge poster which came with the white album and lyrics sheet. This is in a Mint condition.

The Cover itself is in a Excellent condition. It has slight yellowing as the pictures show and a tiny amount of laminate has come off the very edge and is not noticeable unless studied very carefully.

The actual LP's are in a Near Mint condition. They still sound as great as they did years ago. There is a tiny amount of wear around the spindle hole on side one so I am assuming it must have been played but someone obviously took very good care of it. Back in the USSR plays amazingly well with hardly any crackling in the aeroplane coming in at the start where you would normally find sound distortion. Dear Prudence is the tester but it plays beautifully with minimal crackling and obviously no skipping or jumping on the record.

There is not a lot wrong with this record but I want to be completly honest so I have been looking for things wrong with it. I have noticed a very light scrach on side 1 about 2 cm long which does not seem to affect play at all, as it did not when I listened to it. Also on side 3 there is a small scratch going over the matrix numbering but this does not sound on the record as it does nto affect the playability being here.

Differences between the more common Stereo records to the Mono record and other rare observations about the LP;

 

The Mono record (as shown in my pictures) does not have the word "Stereo" printed on the top right hand corner of the back. The Mono ones that were printed were just left blank.

 

There were a few white album's actually produced and created before the official release date of 7th December 1968. This is one of them, and the only way to prove this is because it ommits the "An EMI recording" logo.

 

This record is in the Mono recording which is much rarer than the Stereo release that most people own. It demands a much higher price because it contains rare versions of songs and the Beatles basically chatting and enjoying themselves more!!!

 

Detailed differences between tracks on Mono/Stereo records;

 

Back In The U.S.S.R

The airplane overdubs occur in different places on the mono and stereo versions.

Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da

The stereo version has hand-clapping during the intro, the mono version does not.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

The stereo version has some vocal sounds from George at the end, the mono version does not.

Blackbird

The bird sound effects are quite different between the stereo and the mono release.

Piggies

The pig sound effects are quite different between the stereo and the mono release.

Don't Pass Me By

The mono version is much faster than the stereo, and therefore is shorter.
The violin sounds at the end are markedly different.

Why Don't We Do It In The Road

The stereo version has hand-clapping during the intro, the mono version does not.

I Will

The stereo version has more prominent bongos.

Birthday

The stereo version has extra vocals at the end of the second chorus.

Sexy Sadie

The stereo version has two taps on the tambourine during the intro, the mono version only has one.

Helter Skelter

The stereo version has a fade-out/fade-in dummy ending with Ringo's shout of "I've got blisters on my fingers", the mono version does not ! ... this makes the stereo version almost a minute longer.

Long, Long, Long

The stereo version is fine, but on the mono, George's double-tracked vocal is embarrassingly out of synch.

Honey Pie

The stereo version has a shorter guitar solo than the mono version

 

I grade all my LP's using the following system;

MINT M The record is as new. The cover and any inserts should be in perfect condition.
Many Dealers do not use this classification as A record is unlikely to arrive through the post in truly mint condition. NEAR MINT NM The record is near-mint, there is no damage or visible surface marking. Under Bright Light you may see fine lines on the record, caused by rubbing on the paper sleeve. Reserve this grade for records where you have difficulty spotting anything wrong.
The Cover and inserts are undamaged. EXCELLENT EX The record may show some signs of having been played, possibly with light surface marks or fingerprints but there is no appreciable lessening in sound quality.
The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. EXCELLENT
MINUS EX- There may be fairly visible surface markings under bright light but the sound quality if the record is not adversely affected.
The Cover and inserts may have noticeable light creasing or "foxing" due to dampness but they are all present and intact. VERY GOOD VG The record has obviously been played a lot, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite surface marks and some light scratches. Also Use this grading where the record has suffered perhaps one more visible scratch, but is otherwise in EX or better condition.
The cover may be creased a little and/or frayed at the opening. You should itemize any more serious damage such as tears. Buying or selling anything in less than VG condition is not recommended, if you sell records in worse condition, expect some to get returned, even if your descriptions were honest. GOOD G The record has been played so much that the sound quality has been affected noticeably, perhaps with some distortion and clicks due to scratches. The main place to use this classification is for picture discs, where the sound deteriorates more quickly with use.
The cover and inserts may be folded, have minor tears and/or splits at the edges, they have not been looked after. FAIR F The record is still just playable, but has not looked after there is a lot surface noise, it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced, possibly with chunks missing. POOR N/A The record will no longer play properly due to the damage.
The Cover will be folded torn and probably incomplete BAD N/A Gee, You gotta be desperate to complete your collection to buy this one! It WILL be unplayable, and if you get the cover, treat it as a bonus!
