Information on "White Album"     On October 29, 1968, the (so-called) White Album was WORLDWIDE first published: in Germany. A month later, U.K. on November 22 , November 25 in the United States, the rest of the world followed up. With a subtle but decisive difference: Copies were numbered, the same system used at all 12 pressing plants (so there are 12 1s, 12 2s, 12 1,380,722s, etc.) - NOT SO IN GERMANY! This is important to know when "evaluating numbers". However, the record at auction here is WORLDWIDE PRESS # 12 715 . A nice number, isn't it?That had to be said... With the German SMOs -only- you really know what pressing you hold in your hands - not to mention the extraordinary sound quality.     History: Originally titled A Doll's House , most of the White Album was written while on a meditation study with the Maharishi Yogi (the bands' second such trip). Because they were "roughing it" and had only their acoustic guitars with them, most of the songs are or were originally acoustic in nature. The concept of the record is that it was to be the opposite of Pepper; for example, Sgt.Pepper's had a long title and a lavishly colored cover; The White Album was simply titled The Beatles (and derived it's nickname from that completely white cover). The U.S. version did not feature black sleeves as the German and U.K. versions did, and the 4 photos were smaller. Reports indicate that Capitol had compressed most of the album but George Harrison discovered this and set things right, although due to some mechanical error there is audible evidence of this during Cry Baby Cry, near the line "all the children"... Also, due to dispute over banding (where the space between songs is visible on the record disc), some copies are banded and some aren't - even between copies pressed at the same plant.     You are bidding on a copy of Beatles'  "The Beatles" (White Album) Double-LP, issued  by German Odeon on October 29, 1968.  This album comes in an allover excellent shape.

    And here we go with the Goodies:

• WORLDWIDE first press, album has (really genuine) number 12 715!
• It's the original top loader
• same goes for the original Black Sleeves
• The album is complete, thus with poster and phtos
• poster (with the lyrics on back) looks near mint
• photos range between EX and EX+
• Cover's White Color pretty glossy; anyways, grading "only" VG/VG- cos of seam split (see photos). Also: Somebody has "ink-framed" the songlist on left inner side of the foldcover (photo).

 

    Both discs play smoothtly; no repeats, noises, or whatever. However, there's a short skip at Savoy Truffle - no cracking noise, or so, and it plays thru well, but I certainly have to mention this. AND: This 39y old Album sets standards in sound quality!, as generally all of those SMO-White-Album pressings. One more time I have to admit to being attracted to the White Album anyway. But this sound really kills me, you think the Beatles play right next to you in your living room!

    CONSIDER THIS: AS OF JANUARY 01, 1971 (that is 36 years ago), the White Album WAS SOLD 6.5 MILLION TIMES. HERE IS A (REAL NUMBERED!) COPY AMONG THE FIRST 15,000!

    If you're serious about "scanning for" Beatles collectibles, this nice item is kind of "must-have" (even if you already own that record).

As soon as we drop an LP mailer at the mail office's desk, it is somewhat unpredictable how long the rest of the process will take (and totally out of our hands). Experience so far shows: same delivery took 3 days to Tokyo, seven to NYC, almost three weeks to the Philippines or MidWest United States. Even inside Germany shipping times range from one day to an entire week.
Thus: Beside a handling time of up to three business days, allow one to three weeks shipping.

ONE COMPACT ANSWER TO ABOUT 100 MAILS THAT HAVE REACHED ME THE LAST DAYS     Because I read this again and again, number 80,000, number 8,000, or whatever; a short approach to tell the facts from myths:

• NON-German White Albums CANNOT show up with a TRUE UNIQUE NUMBER, cos, for instance, both British and American copies were pressed at 12 different plants at the same time, so there is 12 1s, 12 856s, 12 19,852s, and so on
• The German (WORLDWIDE!) 1st press of White Album was released on October 29, 1968 as SMO 2051/52. Almost a month later, sales in the U.K. and the States (U.K. November 22, U.S. November 25) were starting. At this point, the German album was sold over a quarter million times!
• Thus, to again answer your questions: YES, this album, offered here at my auction, is a worldwide true number 12,715 - check ANY serious Beatles Book or Web source, you'll find this confirmed!
