Description

Here’s a pretty special item for the Beatles, Apple Records, Badfinger or just Rock ‘n Roll history collector, an ultra rare pressing of the Badfinger Classic Album - Straight Up - signed by their late drummer Mike Gibbins.

I always have a little bit of a sad feeling whenever I think of this truly underrated and under appreciated group. Bad timing can work against you just as much as good timing can work for you in regards to their history but that’s a story for another day.

Firstly this is an Authentic Apple Records pressing from Israel and features a label style that has never been used before or since. I’ve seen two versions, one with black print and one with silver print (this copy). As I’m sure you’re aware the most familiar produced labels that Apple used are all releases with some variation of an Apple design. Be it green, red, orange, etc. it’s always an apple. For this release, a bright and deep red background is used with an Apple logo and block lettering spelling out ‘APPLE RECORDS’ beneath it. As a collector of all Apple designed labels, I can tell you this is a major rarity that you will not run across often. I know if this interesting record has caught your attention there is no need for me to embellish or continue this section of the description. You already know how special this label design is.

Secondly this album has the cover autographed by the late, great Mike Gibbins. Along with the album is a letter with letterhead from Mike’s recording studio - Exile Music Inc. - , asking that his privacy be respected and also requesting a copy of a poster he had signed, great provenience that doesn’t get much better.

On it’s own this particular pressing is a really nice addition to an Apple Records collection especially for those of us who collect different label designs or world Apple releases. Add Mike Gibbins’ autograph to the cover and now it’s a whole new level and having a personally written letter with his own letterhead adoring the top...you now have a piece of Rock history, a worthy display item.

In regards to the condition, the labels are clean and mark free, the record plays beautifully, the cover is sound and the included letter is mint.

Selling a big part of my personal collection accrued over 5 decades. Will be listing a few auctions/items weekly. Some very rare BEATLES items among MANY OTHER artists. Please check in from time to time and see what Rarities and Odd pressings I’ve listed from this extensive collection.
