Description

The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's  LP, Stereo/Mono mispress sleeve.

PCS 7027 –  Black and Silver Two EMI box labels.

A UK copy in 100% original condition.

During 1969 the recording industry  was going through great change to make way for the new  ‘Stereo’ recording techniques.

This particular sleeve features an error,  as  it  is one of the very first NON visible   flipback  design sleeves.  The  text, ‘PCS 7027 Stereo’ appears correctly  on  the rear top right hand corner, but oddly, where there  should be reference again to  Stereo on the rear bottom right corner,  it  says   ‘ MONO ’ !.   These NON visible flipback sleeves were NEVER issued in Mono,   so for the reference MONO to appear on these sleeves   is a complete  error.  This error  should have been spotted and corrected at EMI before the sleeve went out for sale.  But some of these very early NON visible flipback sleeves DID make their way onto  the pubic market  before the error was spotted !.

Each record label  show an unusual, ‘dot’   or period mark  between  the record label catalogue  number,  ie  ‘ PCS .7027 ’, another  apparent reference to this being a very early Two EMI box pressing !

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  is in excellent+ condition,  the  sleeve is fully laminated and  has a really excellent shine.    The colours on the sleeve are full and fresh and have not faded in anyway,  the sleeve is  circa 1970 and it features a  very early NON visible  inner flipbacks within the gatefold sleeve.   The spine is excellent  and is white, strong and very clean, all of the text is clear,  the sleeve still creaks  when it is opened.   There are NO  tears,  Biro pen or stains.  As mentioned above this is  a RARE Stereo / Mono hybrid sleeve,  the reference to Mono is  an error that should have been  spotted by EMI before  they were distributed  to the public.

The original Green cardboard cut-out is present and is in  excellent condition,   there   is One pin hole on it !.

INNER SLEEVE: is in  excellent condition, it is the original white sleeve, with  a  Patent number   ‘112 5555’.    There is NO rubbing wear to the edges,    NO stains or Pen writing.

VINYL:  is in  excellent+ condition   and looks almost brand new, it is made of  ‘heavy’, thick  vinyl, it is dark and has a high gloss.        The matrix no’s.   are      YEX 637 - 1   and   YEX 638 - 2     and the     Mother / Stampers are:     ‘ 2     A G G ’   and   ‘  1        L  ’.

AUDIO:  is excellent, there is little to spoil  the listening  pleasure  of this  brilliant period Stereo  sound.  It  lays flat on the turntable and plays with NO sticking or jumps.

THE LABELS:  are in  excellent+ condition and look as if they have  only been played once.    As already mentioned there is  a curious  ‘dot’  or  period mark that appears  between the catalogue reference number on either side of the labels,  this again is apparently  proof that this is a very early Two EMI box label pressing.

Unfortunately as you will see from my feedback,   I have received One negative feedback recently.   This is due to the fact that I followed Ebay policy and reported  an Ebay member for non payment and in turn I have received this feedback !, while this Ebay member carries on trading unaffected !,    I am disgusted that Ebay has let this happen !

To fairly grade the condition of the record, I am using the official grading system from the Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
