Description

THE BEATLES - 'SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'

This title was only one of three in The Beatles UK catalogue to be pressed in mono with this label design.
By the time this pressing hit the shops in late 1969, mono was a dead format & only a few hundred were sold, making it one of the scarcest pressings of this LP.

The disc bears the black & silver '1-EMI-box' Parlophone label: PMC 7027

The have 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd...' & 'Made in Gt Britain' printed around the rims.

Matrix numbers: XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1

Stamper codes: 6/MPR & '01' symbol/MOA

Vinyl weight: 146g

Housed within a fully laminated, inner-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed mono gatefold cover.

Complete with unused cut-out sheet and red & white EMI advertising inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: VERY GOOD +

A clean and undamaged pair with numerous spindle marks around each slightly worn centre hole.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean and retain a good deal of their factory shine in strong daylight. The only significant blemish is a 6mm scratch on side 1 which can just be felt beneath my fingertips. Apart from that, only wispy paper-type hairlines visible directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp. There is a small uneven section of the disc which causes the playing arm to rise and fall slightly on side 1, but does not affect sound or play on my system.

Sound Quality: VERY GOOD

Despite having been played many times, the sound quality is impressive with a particularly good bass response. My careful play-check detected just a touch of wear to the peaks in 'She's Leaving Home' and a handful of light clicks on 'Getting Better' due to the aforementioned scratch, but definitely no jumps, repeats or any major audible faults anywhere on this rare copy.

Cover: VERY GOOD +

A vibrant & strong example which has a clean, high-gloss front laminate showing a few 'thumbnail' wrinkles towards the opening edge, but no other significant signs of wear. All corners are in excellent shape and all opening edges are undamaged. The rear panel is equally clean and vibrant with just a small bend to the lower left corner.

The inside of the gatefold is clean & glossy with no missing paper on the flip-overs & just a single 'thumbnail' on the right-hand panel.

The spine has lost its laminate over the wording, but it is still intact & readable. All seams of both pockets are smooth, unstressed & unsplit.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with a light disc impression from storage but no writing, tears or seam splits.

Cut-out sheet: MINT
