Release Information. Australian EMI parlophone Label. PCSO 7027. 80s Pressing
Description. Red vinyl plus insert. Little known is the fact that this is an Audiophile 1/2 speed mastered version. Mnay ofyou will scoff at this but heres the dope on this one. In the 80s EMI in Australia decided to release some Audiophile LPs. Amongst those that got to at least Test Pressing stages were a Neil Young LP, Pink Floyd, Little River Band and the Beatles. The last two were pressed up and packed ready for retail, however before thay could be sold EMI UK stopped the releases...who knows why?.. Anyway the Beatles release was Put together by WB(thats his initials), his mark is in the dead wax. New master tapes were ordered from the UK and the master was cut here using a half speed process and hence and Audiophile pressing was possible. All copies of the "legitimate" audiophile pressing were off loaded at a Hi-fi show in Sydney in the mid 80s. I know of about 4 copies in existance.....OK, so this copy is on Red vinyl but is pressed frrom the masters made for the audiophile release, so its of the same audio quality as an Audiophile pressing albeit its on red vinyl. I got this information from the president of the NSW Beatles appreciation society and can testify to its accuracy having once owned the EMI Audiophile pressing myself. The telltale deadwax imprint W2B gives it away.
