Beatles Sgt Peppers Mono PMC 7027 Complete
Welcome to my auction for an original groundbreaking LP by the BeatlesSgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
What can I say about this that hasn't already been said? Not much, but I will try to describe this item because there have been many different releases of this album.
This LP has the catalogue number 637-1 (Side1) and 638-1 (Side 2) and is an early issue with the following stampers' in the dead wax area
Side 1 has a small number '6' just below the 9 0'clock position. At the 3 O'clock position are the letters 'ALT'.
Side 2 has a small number '7' at the 9 O'clock position. At the 3 O'clock position are the letters 'AOA'. The KT tax code is on side 2 (you can just see the K above the word 'Hearts' in the photo above.)
Also included is the cut out sheet and the first issue red and white inner sleeve.
And now to the condition...The vinyl I would class as visually very good and play wise I would say Excellent. The sleeve I would say is very good, as is the red and white inner and the card cut outs insert is faultless.
Firstly the record itself. Upon visual inspection there are a few visible, mainly light, 'hairline' marks on both sides, most likely caused by the record being taken in and out of the sleeve. I was pleasantly surprised when I came to play the record because both sides play really really virtually no noise or ticks. A really good player! Even the intros and the outros which can often be very noisy are fine, including the long fade out at the end of side 2 (which then leads into the lock groove, see below for more info on this). I listened to both sides of the LP very closely and I didn't spot anything that bothered me. I'm very critical when it comes to things like 'ticks' on vinyl as I have also sold classical records which are among the hardest vinyls to grade. You have my word that you will be able to play this LP and enjoy it. This pressing has a good bassy sound. John Lennon himself apparently said that the Sgt Peppers LP was meant to be heard in Mono. Who's to argue?The outer sleeve is generally ok with the most obvious wear being on the spine. The other edges are nice though, as is the front, back and the inside. The red and white inner sleeve is in good shape in my view. These are often badly split down the seams but this one isn't. There is a bit of 'grazing' down one side (just about visible in the second photo below) but I don't think this is much to be concerned with but I thought I ought to mention it. The cut out card insert is fine.
One other thing I noticed about this record is that there is a 'lock groove' in the run out dead wax area on Side 2. I did a quick bit of research on the net and found out that this lock groove was John Lennon saying something along the lines of '"Put it back you cheeky bu**er"along with what sounds like some laughter or something. It baffled me anyway! If there are any questions you have or anything else you need to know, extra photos or whatever just get in touch...all I ask is that you do so in plenty of time and not 10 mins before the end.
