Summary:
No doubt, one of the ICONIC albums of the 20th Century, ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ was released by EMI/Parlophone, UK back in 1967. It went straight to Number 1, and dominated the top position in the charts for 23 weeks!
Album Description and Condition:
RARE FIRST ISSUE **MONO** VINYL LP is on the traditional Black & Yellow Parlophone Label, with ‘The Gramophone Co Ltd label’ rim, ‘Sold in the UK….’ and ‘Made in Gt. Britain’ printed to both sides of the record labels.
Side 1 stamped matrix: XEX 637-1 and Side 2: XEX 638-1.
Side 1 stampers: 3/7/MRR and Side 2: 8/ARM.
The side one record label is in excellent minus condition, BRIGHT label, showing an area of light glue residue where a sticker has been removed at the top of the label by the Parlophone symbol. The side 2 record label is excellent, CLEAN and BRIGHT, showing just some light centre spider trails.
Both sides of the Vinyl Disc are in excellent minus condition, NICE bright Vinyl showing some light surface hairlines scratches, none of which affect the play quality. There are NO deep scuffs or deep scratches.
Audio Quality:
The album plays WELL from beginning to end - A CLEAR, STRONG MONO sound with NO skips, just the odd click and some light background crackle.
The Vinyl Disc comes in an ORIGINAL, First Issue, Flame Pink and White inner bag printed ‘Made in Great Britain Patents Applied For’ to the bottom corner. This is a RESPECTABLE example. There are small splits to all the seams, NO Handwriting and just some mild tearing to the opening edge.
The album comes with an ORIGINAL First Issue CARD Sgt Pepper Cut-Out, which is in SUPERB, UNDAMAGED near mint condition.
…..And is protected in an ORIGINAL First Issue RARE WIDER SPINE Fully Laminated Garrod & Lofthouse Internal Flip back GATEFOLD Sleeve correctly printed ‘PMC 7027 Mono’ to the reverse. The wider spine measures a generous 7 cms wide.
The front and the back of the sleeve is in RESPECTABLE excellent minus condition. The sleeve still retains its high GLOSS laminate to the front, inner gatefold and reverse, with NO fading to the DEEP VIVID colors, and only minimal record indentation to the front panel. There are NO seam splits to the top and bottom edges, and only a crease to the bottom left hand corner and a small area of paper loss to the top left hand corner. The inside of the Gatefold Sleeve is in CLEAN excellent condition, and the two internal fold over flaps are UNDAMAGED. The WIDE spine edge is CLEAN and FIRM and clearly reads 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.
An all round RESPECTABLE, 100% ORIGINAL and COMPLETE example of this RARE WIDE SPINE MONO Album!
