Beautiful sealed, second US Apple pressing of the White Album, sequentially numbered as “No. 2988417” - most likely pressed in 1969 (see below).
It’s been safely tucked away in my collection for years, stored in a Japanese-style outer resealable sleeve - so it’s just as it was when I bought it.
There is a little wear on the shrink wrap itself, as would be expected after all these years. There are two small breathe holes on the left area of the front - please check out the final two pics, you’ll see them there.
The cover is still beautifully, perfectly white. No bends, creases, scratches or markings of any kind.
There is a VERY minor “ding” on the lower left corner (could have happened at the factory) - the other three corners are all sharp and square.
The one flaw is a 2” seam split at the bottom center, with a corresponding split in the shrink. There are no other tears in the shrink.
So, what’s the vintage?
Based on the information in Bruce Spizer’s reference book “The Beatles On Apple Records” (print edition, page 120), this cover was part of the second print run done by Queens Litho (having the “No.” prefix and being within the likely numbering range of 2,800,000 to nearly 3,000,000). That identifies the cover variation as APP 101.SC2 (a second-run cover).
There was a third print run in late 1969 or early 1970, with cover numbers begining around 3,000,000. And the sequential cover numbering was discontinued in 1970.
So this second-run cover was most likely printed/assembled in 1969 - and the Apple label LPs inside would most likely be the “Mfd. by Apple” perimeter print variation.
Beautiful piece - you’re not likely to see another one in this sealed condition anytime soon.
