Description

THE BEATLES - 'RUBBER SOUL'
This rare variant is a UK 2nd STEREO pressing on the black & yellow Parlophone label: PCS 3075

Both labels include the 'Sold in UK....' text and 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd...' worded rims.

Matrix numbers: YEX 178-3 & YEX 179-3

Stamper codes: 1/GD & 2/L

Vinyl weight: 142g

Housed within a rare front laminated, tri-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed cover with a 'silver' front 'stereo' indicator.

99.9% of UK printed 'Rubber Soul' covers have no 'stereo' front indicator. However an extremely limited amount were made (possibly for U.S. export) with this detail printed in silver or black.

This copy comes complete with its original rice-paper lined 'Use Emitex..' inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

A clean & bright pair with a small number of well-aimed spindle trails around each unworn centre hole.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean and retain much of their original deep-gloss shine however there is a 'feelable' 1.5 cm scratch covering track 4 on side 1 and a similar 7mm one partially covering tracks 4 & 5 on side 2. There are also several light, non-feelable fingernail scuff lines on both sides and some wispy paper-type hairlines directly beneath my unforgiving desk lamp. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: VERY GOOD

This copy has received a moderate amount of play but there is no major deterioration to the sound quality. My single play-check detected some light repeating clicks on 'You Won't See Me' for about 30 seconds and a few more between 'In My Life' & 'If I Needed Someone' on side 2. There is also some low-level background on 'Michelle' but no jumps, repeats or any other major faults.

Cover: VERY GOOD +

A respectable example of this rare cover which retains a bright, high-gloss front panel with some light 'thumbnail' wrinkles towards the opening edge and several small spine bends. However, the all-important silver 'stereo' logo is bold & unworn. There is minor shelfwear to the corners and light wear to the opening edges but no tears to either side. The easily blemished rear panel has slight age-toning but is otherwise clean & free from any marks, writing or missing paper.

Both the seams & the spine are all smooth, unstressed & unworn.

Inner-sleeve: VERY GOOD +

Clean & crisp with mild age-toning around the edges, but no writing, seam splits or tears.
