Description

Beatles Rubber Soul

Parlophone PMC 1267

 Matrix: XEX 579 -1  5 MH / 579 -1  2 TA

Sleeve: 12 LL Printed, made by Ernest J. Day & Co.

Released December 1965, Rubber Soul was the Beatles sixth album, the title derives from the colloquialism "plastic soul" and was the Beatles' way of acknowledging their lack of authenticity compared to original African-American soul artists. After A Hard Day's Night in 1964, Rubber Soul was the second Beatles LP to contain only original material. It has generally been recognised by music critics as an album that opened-up pop music in terms of lyrical and musical scope, and as a key work in the creation of styles such as psychedelia and progressive rock.

Summary: 1965 mono, PMC 1267, XEX 579 -1 / XEX 580 -1 issue, Ernest J Day & Co sleeve. Condition, no major issues - honestly graded:  sleeve signs of age-related handling VG, labels spindle marks only VG. Vinyl retains a light sheen, light scuffs and needle traces/hairlines, nothing feelable, plays clean (no skips, sticks jumps or loud pops) audio graded VG+.

Cover: Laminated glossy front, flipback Ernest J. Day & Co printed sleeve. Fully readable spine. General age-related signs of handling, light creasing, edge creases, light edge/corner wear. Rear is generally clean for its age but still has light handing marks. Flip edges generally clean (compared with the majority) very small (3cm) tear on opening edge, graded VG (see photos)

Comes with the original “Emitex” inner, although this is completely split on one edge, there is a small split on another edge and a bit discoloured - will include it along with a new poly-lined inner.

Label: original Black/yellow Parlophone logo, clean of any stickers/residue, writing. Spindle marks, all age-related (see photos) graded VG

Vinyl: Retains a sheen under normal light, closer inspection reveals light scuffs and needle traces/hairlines, a few (very few) scratches, certainly nothing feelable (non-sounding) or nasty, graded VG

Audio: These original vinyls were built to last, plays through with no major problems, no skips, sticks, jumps or loud pops, some very feint crackle in-between some tracks that’s all, (played on a Project carbon - blue 2M Ortofon) audio graded VG+

I have tried to be honest and transparent in my description - the photographs form part of the description. Questions are welcome, don't hesitate to ask. I have good feedback (and positive comments) as both a buyer and seller, so you can buy with confidence. I have been a collector for 47+ years buying and selling records over the years to feed my changing music habits. The few records I sell are either the results of upgrades or duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again. If anything is not as expected, please contact me straight away and I will do everything to resolve any problems without argument.

I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - as an additional guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
