Description

IN THIS AUCTION:

·        “THE 15 GREATEST HITS OF THE BEATLES ALL COMPOSED BY JOHN, PAUL AND GEORGE”  sung by The Merseyboys

·        This is Vee Jay Records 1101.

·        The LP is a MONO (monaural) Pressing.

·        This LP was issued in 1964.

·        As you probably know, Vee Jay Records, for a short period of time in 1963-1964, held the rights in the U.S. to a handful of Beatles songs that the record company recycled several times by selling the same LP in different covers. The buying public quickly realized that they were not acquiring any new Beatles’ material in each Vee Jay album they purchased. Instead, they were buying basically the same Beatles’ tunes over and over when they purchased “Introducing the Beatles”, “Songs, Pictures & Stories of the Fabulous Beatles” and “The Beatles vs The Four Seasons” (Beatles’ disk in this double vinyl LP).

·        This LP is VERY RARE. because it was such a blatant and, in fact, a very feeble attempt by Vee Jay Records to again try to capitalize on The Beatles fame by issuing this LP that appears by the cover to be by The Beatles, but was, in fact, recorded by the Merseyboys.

·        And note who’s missing on the cover: Ringo! He was omitted from the cover, as in 1964 he had not composed any songs released by The Beatles.

·        How many buyers read the cover seeing the top line “SALUTING THEIR RETURN TO AMERICA AND THEIR FIRST MOTION PICTURE”, “THE BEATLES” name, “JOHN, PAUL AND GEORGE” (in the largest print size) and their images, but were disappointed when they listened to the LP and realized they missed the line on the cover “And Sung By The Merseyboys”.  Even the rear cover notes are ALL about Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison. So, why is there no info at all about the names of the Merseyboys? Furthermore, the spine printing only has “THE 15 GREATEST SONGS OF THE BEATLES” and the catalog number 1101. Again, there is NO mention of thee Merseyboys!

·        The PRIMARILY WHITE COVER is in NEAR MINT MINUS CONDITION. It has very light overall wear, a little minor wear on the bottom left corner, a little wear near the top center on the front, minor cracking and flaking on the top seam (see image), and a small bump on the bottom seam under John’s image. I’ve seen only one other copy of this LP, and the white cover was terribly soiled with 3-4 inch seam splits on 2 seams.

·        The VINYL is in STRONG VG+ CONDITION with some light surface scuffs/hairlines.

·        Note that the VJ labels have “SALUTING THEIR RETURN TO AMERICA” in the largest print suggesting that to be the LP title. And “Played by the Merseyboys” is in the smallest print!

·        This LP comes with its original Vee Jay Records inner paper sleeve that advertises other VJ releases. The inner paper sleeve has splits on 2 one side and on the bottom.

·        Overall, it’s a VERY NICE COPY of this VERY RARE BEATLES-RELATED VEE JAY LP to add to your vinyl collection

·        It’s a Beatles-related LP that has become very tough to find at all these days.
