The Beatles first true record in America! Issued in February 1963 there were an approximate total of 7,500 of all the variations of this rare single pressed! Famous for the mispelling of their name as "Beattles", Vee Jay Records quickly caught their error and corrected the spelling to "Beatles". As per Bruce Spizers fantastic book on the Beatles Vee Jay records, "this is a corrected thick print brackets label variation with "THE BEATLES" properly centered below the song titles and above "VJ 498". The A side features Please Please Me and the B-side features Ask Me Why. The markings in the trail off area have the MR symbol and Audio Matrix machine stampings. The trail off areas also contain the job numbers 46527 hand etched on the A side and 46527-X on the B side of the single. Vee Jay distributor invoices document that 1,565 copies of this single were shipped by Monarch Records in March and April 1963. It is not known how many of these had the corrected labels. ALL variations of this single are rare!
Again this is the thick print, correct spelling "THE BEATLES" variation. It has the black label with colorband and brackets Vee Jay logo. The record would grade as Good, although it has a short half-inch crack at one spot along the edge. It is worn but clean and plays through without any skips on either side, although there is some surface noise as you would expect for a record of this age. There is a small bit of paper loss on the "Ask Me Why" label and further wear around the center hole on both sides (see photos). Not being a dealer, I may have overlooked some pertinent details so feel free to send questions.
Also, as seen in photos, an original sleeve for this record is included. It shows a few signs of age in the top and one side has separated (easily repaired w/a couple small drops of glue) but no fading, so not too bad.
All variations of the historic single are very hard to find! I will pay postage for anywhere in the contiguous forty-eight United States. Good luck!
