THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK **STEREO** PRESSING LP
**BLACK & GOLD 'NORTHERN SONGS' LABELS**
Released on 26 April 1963, only 900 black & gold label stereo copies rumoured to exist.
Most of these copies carried the incorrect 'Dick James' publishing credits, but a few made towards the end of the minute pressing run were printed with the corrected 'Northern Songs' labels. These 'Northern Songs' label variants were unknown until a few years back and are seen much less frequently than 'Dick James' labels.
This copy has a 1/G side 1 mother/stamper numbers signifiying that it was one of the first few copies pressed.
Here then is a copy of that ultra-rare STEREO pressing on the UK black & GOLD Parlophone label: PCS 3045
The labels have the correct 'Northern Songs' publishing credits for songs: 1 & 2 on side 1 and 4 & 6 on side 2.
Unusually there is no tax/price code visible in the centre of either label that I can see.
Housed in a correct, front laminated, tri-flipback 'E.J. Day' printed stereo cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme right-hand corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: YEX 94-1 & YEX 95-1
Stamper numbers: 1/G & 1/R
Labels: VERY GOOD
Bold & bright with just a few light scratches but no touch-up, writing or missing paper.
Visual: VERY GOOD MINUS
Both surfaces are clean & glossy with no dull/cloudy areas or groove-whitening to either surface.
Numerous light, stylus scratches are visible in strong direct daylight but none are especially large, deep or feelable under the fingertips.
Close inspection directly beneath a halogen desk lamp highlights reveals some light inner-sleeve removal hairlines but no further significant wear.
Both sides lie 100% flat on both sides with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: VERY GOOD
Although this disc has received frequent play, there is no major deterioration to the overall sound quality and both sides play without any major faults.
Some intermittant light clicks & faint background is audible during quiet sections and between tracks but the clarity of the early stereo mix is undiminished.
All tracks play without any jump, repeats or other major audible faults.
Cover: VERY GOOD MINUS
A clean front panel with an undamaged, intact laminate which bears a few light creases and edge wrinkles but no significant wear or damage.
The lower corners have some rubbing but are otherwise clean & unbumped. There is slight wear to the front opening edge but the rear is clean & sharp.
The rear is clean & white with no toning, marks or writing but there are two small pieces of missing paper on upper & lower right flipback corners.
The spine is missing the letter 'a' from 'The Beatles' but is otherwise clean & undamaged.
Both the seams are strong, unstressed & unsplit.
Both discs have been carefully audibly graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck fitted with a Shelter 901 cartridge.
All records are 100% guaranteed. Full refunds given if you are not satisfied
