Description
For auction is a superb sounding and very rare 5th UK stereo issue, pressed in 1963, of the debut album by The Beatles -Please Please Me.
In the early to mid sixties Mono outsold stereo records by 10 to 1. Hence these early 1963 stereo copies of Please Please Me are much harder to find than the mono edition - particularly in good condition.
The Fifth label variant here was pressed from Summer 1963 to Feb 1964. The low stamper numbers on this copy - 1GA and 1H - suggest it was pressed early in the run and likely one of the first 5 to 10 thousand stereo copies ever made.
Original Parlophone sleeve made buy Ernest J Day is in VG+ condition with only minor edge wear as an issue. So many early copies have trashed sleeves and very scratched records. This is one of the rare well-looked after copies.
Original Use Emitex inner sleeve in excellent condition.
Record labels unmarked apart from very minor spindle marks. Graded as excellent.
Visually side 1 is VG+. Minor hairlines and sleeve removal marks. Plays truly excellently, with no issues apart from very occasional very light crackles, only noticeable between tracks. Sound graded as EX+ and overall grading for side 1 is EX. Superb sound and 57 years old!!
Visually side 2 is VG, due to a visible mark over tracks 1 - 3 (see photo). Remarkably this does not affect the sound in any way. Side 2 plays as beautifully as Side 1. I have bought brand new records with more background noise than this one. Sound grading EX+ and overall grading for side 2 is EX-.
This is a rare and beautifully sounding very early copy of a piece of music history.
