'Please Please Me'
The Beatles
This was The Beatles' 1st UK official LP release and FOR THE ONLY TIME the MONO version was issued 6 weeks before the Stereo version.
The whole album was recorded in one session at Abbey Road and lasted 16 hours.
The cover photo was taken at EMI's former headquarters at Manchester Sq by Angus McBean on 5 March 1963.
This is the rare MONO version. The difference between the mono and stereo versions is in the stereo version, John Lennon makes a mistake in the words of the final verse of 'Please Please Me'. John sings 'I know I never even try girl' instead of 'I know you never even try girl' ... which causes him to chuckle briefly in the final chorus. This is not heard in the mono version.
4th Pressings:
- Standard yellow block Parlophone label on black (only used until 1969)
- The 'All rights of the manufacturer' message round the edge of the label starts with 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd.'
- The label DOES have 'Recording first published 1963', but NOT 'Sold in the UK' statements
- The word 'MONO' on the front cover is larger than in later editions.

Condition
The cover is showing signs of age and some damage - i.e. some wear and tear on the corners, marks on the cover and I've tried to show all of this in the pictures. There is some coffee-staining and hand-writing on the back cover and the yellow parlophone writing on the B side has been drawn on with a biro pen - again, as pictured.
There is no inner sleeve.
Despite the wear to the cover, the record itself is in good condition. Having played the record all the way through on both sides I can only detect 2 blips. On Side 1, on the track 'Please Please Me' it jumps slightly in one place. On Side 2, on the track 'A Taste Of Honey' playback sticks in one place. Other than that, playback is almost perfect.
