Description
THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1967 GERMAN ODEON **EXPORT** LP
This rare edition of 'Please, Please Me' was pressed in Germany for export sales only.
This copy is particularly rare because it appears to be a later pressing from 1967. The first significant difference from the 1964 version is that the cover is not the usual thick card example with the paste-on back, but a 'normally' constructed sleeve of glossy card.
The second rare variation occurs in the run-out of side 1 where the matrix number is followed by 'X'.
The label on the disc is the same as the 1964 issue - a white, gold & red Odeon design with the catalogue number: ZTOX 5550
The text around the rim of the label begins: 'Alle Rechte...'
Housed in a glossy card cover without a pasted-over rear panel 'Printed in Germany'.
Complete with its original inner-sleeve which advertises other contemporary releases by The Hollies, Cliff Richard, Herman's Hermits...amongst others.
Matrix numbers: SHZE-117 A X & SHZE-117 B-1
Disc weight: 161g
CONDITION
Disc
Labels: NEAR MINT
A pristine, clean & unblemished set with just a few barely visible light spindle trails around each centre hole.
Visual: VERY GOOD +
Both playing surfaces are clean & glossy but close inspection in strong daylight does show up a few careless surface marks and a handful of hairlines scratches. One which can be felt beneath the fingertips - it measures 1cm and is between tracks 6 & 7 on side 1. Careful examination directly beneath my halogen desk lamp reveals little more than a sparkling rainbow shine and some insignificant wispy paper hairlines but no addition visual faults. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable with no dishing or warping.
Play: EXCELLENT
This copy has received very little play and still sounds clean & clear with no groove/play wear distortion on any track. My careful play-check at volume detected some light clicks on the final half of 'Ask Me Why' but apart from that, and a touch of light background on the bands between tracks, there really is little else to fault.
Cover
EXCELLENT
This rare example is in clean & strong shape and displays an unworn and unfaded front panel with just few light handing creases but no major signs of wear. There is a little shelfwear to the lower corners and but none are split or torn. A touch of wear is also visible on the front opening edge but again, no tears or feathering. The rear panel is extremely clean & unblemished with just a few minor wrinkles and no writing or missing paper. Both seams and the spine are unstressed and unsplit.
Inner-sleeve
EXCELLENT +
A superb clean & flat example with no writing, splits or tears.
