My clearout continues!
I'm now clearing our a batch of classic rock, prog and 60's LPs that I bought in a collection a few years back, a pretty complete collection but I don't really need all the titles. Watch this space for more titles.......
you're bidding for:
Beatles - Please Please Me Black & Gold Northern Songs credits vinyl LP G+/G+
cat: PMC 1202 matrix: XEX 421-1N XEX 422-1N stampers: 2 GL 12 GO
The vinyl grades as G+ visually and like many early copies of this LP has lots of marks and scuffs on both sides. That said it does retain some original gloss and is far from completely dulled with age and use. The reason I've graded it G+ is down to a long thin feelable mark, or scratch on side 1 which spans the first 5 tracks. That all said the LP plays really well, you just can't appreciate how amazingly pressed records these were, the large feelable mark doesn't affect play! it's hard to believe but appart from crackle on the run in and occassional light crackle in quieter sections the LP play grades a very respectable VG. A very enjoyable listen (staggering considering how it looks) with great sound reproduction.
Both Black & Gold labels with the rarer Northern Songs credits are VG, no marks or writing but quite an amount of wear and more around the spindle hole. On side 2 the MT taxa code is visible. The original Emitex inner is in good shape and grades VG+ with light wear & discolouration.
As I bought this as part of a collection some years back I don't relally know it's full history but it seems to have a different sleeve to the original version. This sleeve is the Garrod & Lofthouse large Mono sleeve with the corrected Angus McBean credit where the A of Angus is just under (slightly to the right of the second s in songs) whereas I think it should've have been the EJ Day sleeve with the P of photo under the s in songs. The sleeve itself is also graded G+ even though it's fully intact it does have corner rubs and creases and lots of general wear. Whilst the spine is legible and flip backs are still attached the rear is pretty grubby and it has a name and address written at the top, also there's the start of a 3mm tear in the front of the open edge. Still an acceptable sleeve for such a rare record but as I've said I don't feel it's the original one.
