Summary:
Simply entitled‘McCARTNEY’, this was Paul's first solo UK album release. A truly solo album as Paul wrote ALL the songs, played ALL the instruments, and sung most of the vocal parts with some assistance from Linda. He recorded and produced the album in the 4 months before the release date of April 1970. This planned date proved to be upsetting to the other three Beatles as ‘Let It Be’ was scheduled for April 1970, and Paul was asked to delay his release. He refused, and ‘Let It Be’ was re-scheduled.
Album Description and Condition:
ORIGINAL UK EMI/APPLE Stereo Heavyweight VINYL LP released on 17 April 1970 on the Custom DARK GREEN Apple Label with ‘Apple Records’ label rim, and ‘Mfd in UK’ printed to both records.
Both record labels are in SUPERB near mint condition. A STUNNING set of UNDAMAGED record labels, with no more than a few, hardly visible, centre spider trails.
Both sides of the HEAVYWEIGHT Vinyl LP are in near mint condition. STUNNING GLISTENING Vinyl surfaces showing nothing more than just a couple of very light surface hairlines, but that’s it.
Side 1 stamped matrix: YEX 775A-2U and side 2: YEX 776B-28
Side 1 stampers: 5/OA and side 2: 6/PA
Audio Quality:
Having carefully played the album, it plays SUPERBLY through all the tracks, without any skips, clicks or distortion. A VERY STRONG, POWERFUL Sound.
The album comes in its Original Plain White Paper Bag which is in near mint condition. NO seam splits or tearing.
The album is housed in a STUNNING near mint First Issue FULLY LAMINATED GATEFOLD Picture Sleeve. The sleeve photography was by Linda McCartney.
This true near mint gatefold sleeve is in the FINEST condition that we have offered in a very long long time. It still retains its DEEP SHINY GLOSSY Laminate throughout and what also strikes you about this FIRST ISSUE sleeve is how FIRM and FLAT it is. All edges and corners are UNDAMAGED - not one corner bump and there are NO signs of record indentation. The spine edge is PERFECT and the word ‘McCartney’ clearly legible. The inside of the gatefold sleeve features various images of Paul, Linda and the kids and is in near mint condition, with only the mildest rub marks to the bottom two edges of the inner gatefold, but this is very minimal.
This was an amazingly good album for the start of Paul’s solo career, and contains some of his finest compositions. Released nearly 40 years ago, PRISTINE examples such as this one are few and far between.
