Description

The most OBSCURE Original UK Lennon Album, ‘UNFINISHED MUSIC NO. 1 TWO VIRGINS’ was John’s FIRST UK SOLO Album release in 1968. Not surprisingly, it caused much of a stir at the time due to the nude content of the album cover and the experimental nature of the music content. A major obstacle was the record company, who refused to release it unless the pictures were changed. Eventually the album was distributed by Track Records in the UK - with one condition - that it was wrapped in a brown paper bag, to cover the offending nude scenes, but even with approval, the record company printers would not print it. In addition many record shops refused to stock it, and it therfore only sold around 5,000 copies, not even entering the charts. Even the music press opposed it and no editor would accept any of the adverts. It was the first Solo Beatles album to be DELETED by EMI.

The naked photographs were taken in early October 1968 in the basement of Ringo's property in Montague Square, where John set up a camera up using a delayed shutter release, taking the photos himself.

Album Description and Condition:

Released by APPLE UK on 29 November 1968, the Original FIRST PRESSING UK STEREO Vinyl LP is on the Dark Green Apple Label, with the ‘Track Records’ logo, with ‘Sold in UK….’ and ‘Mfd in UK’ printed to both record labels.

Both sides of the record labels are in SUPERB condition apart from the name Glenn written lightly in biro and with no more than a couple of BARELY VISIBLE centre spider trails, indicating that the record has HARDLY BEEN PLAYED.

Both sides of the Vinyl Playing surfaces are in SUPERB ex+ condition – GLEAMING, NEW LOOKING Vinyl, with just just a couple of extremely light surface hairlines to both sides

Matrix and Stamper information:

Side 1 matrix: SAPCOR 2A-1 and Side 2: SAPCOR 2B-1
Side 1 stampers: 1/O and Side 2: 1/O

Audio Quality:

In my estimatation the Ex+ Vinyl disc would not have received more than a 5-6 plays – Both sides play EXTREMELY WELL without any skips, clicks or distortion.

The Vinyl LP comes in its ORIGINAL Matt Black Die Cut Inner Bag which is excellent. NO splits or tearing around the die cut hole, NO seam splits to any of the edges, with just a little inevitable light creasing – A Great example.

The album is housed in an Original, FIRST ISSUE, FULLY Laminated Sleeve, featuring John and Yoko baring all on both sides. The reverse of the Stereo sleeve is printed 'Apple Records May 1968’, ‘Made in Merrie England’ and ‘Photographs by John Lennon’. Additionally, there is a statement from Paul McCartney and the title of the album.

The Fully Laminated sleeve is in excellent condition. There are NO seam splits. The spine edge is UNDAMAGED. There is record indentation to the front and reverse panel of the sleeve (very common with these delicate sleeves) and laminate lifting to the spine edge on the front and reverse of the sleeve. (Again a commom fault with these sleeves, where air traps underneath the laminate during the manufacturing process).

Overall an excellent example of this DESIRABLE and VERY RARE UK Lennon album.

Obviously due to ebay restrictions I have had to censor the front sleeve. If you have any questions or require further images, please contact me.
