READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
So with that said…
Beatles LP Yesterday and Today Unconfirmed Apple “Mfd. By” Side 2 H23 Record Club Mix!
RAREST OF ALL TITLES FOR THIS UNDOCUMENTED VARIATION.
As discussed in previous auctions, the label variation with the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer found on the Side 2 labels of The Beatles’ catalogue titles prior to 1969 were long-thought not to exist.
Most Beatles collectors are unaware that the scarce H23 plate out of Winchester used the Record Club tapes for Side 1. That means that the track, “I’m Only Sleeping” contains the extra backwards guitar passage on the line, “Running everywhere at such a speed.”
It’s also not widely known that the 1975 “All Rights” issue used those tapes as well. This is the only pressing on Apple that I’ve discovered pre-1975 that had used the Record Club tapes.
Vinyl--- Excellent. Side 1 has a light visible scuff across the first track. You can’t feel it with your fingertip, and it tracks silently under your stylus. I have brightened it in the first photo, and have arrowed it, so you can see it. Turning the camera to a slightly different angle makes it disappear.
Side 2 looks nearly unplayed, with the exception of a couple of wisps that appear as you tilt the album around in the light. Very nice-looking piece of vinyl.
Plates--- H23/ X7. As with all copies of this rare label variation, this is a Winchester pressing. Side 1 plays as brightly as the Record Club issues do. Side 2 is decidedly midrange-heavy, as the other commercial releases of this LP were.
Cover--- VG+. Promo cover has the ¼-inch hole at the top right of the cover. Very structurally solid. Muscular-strong seams and spine, NO SPLITS. Front and back covers have light foxing and a little yellowing.
Labels--- Beautiful, Excellent labels. Their only issues are one or two extremely light spindle marks per side, but you’re going to have to search for them.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Plain white inner sleeve with die-cut holes for the labels to show is present. Has the corresponding promo hole. Sleeve is heavily yellowed and brittle. Has seam splits, but it is the originally-issued sleeve.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 12
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
