 Original 1968 UK MONO 1st pressing with original top opening numbered sleeve and dark green Apple labels with ‘Sold in UK…’ label text. Omits ‘EMI Recording’

An early MONO copy pressed and manufactured ahead of the 22nd November 1968 release date.

Matrix numbers:

XEX 709-1, XEX 710-2, XEX 711-1, XEX 712-1

Stamper codes: 6/AT, 3/MT, 1/M (first mother), 4/OD (early single and double digit stampers)

CONDITION

Disc

Visual:

Disc 1: Side one EXC+/MINT- Side two EXC+/MINT-

A fabulous looking mono disc which has clearly received only a few plays in its 50 year history. Appears virtually mint in daylight with only the occasional light handling mark. It would appear that side 2 has received only 3 or 4 plays in its history. Grades somewhere between excellent+ and nr mint.

Disc 2: Side three EXCELLENT- Side four EXCELLENT-

Disc two has light superficial hairlines and handling marks becoming apparent when viewed in strong light but nothing feelable or that could be described as a scratch. Grades at or around excellent minus.

Both discs lay 100% flat on the turntable.

 Audio:

EXCELLENT+

There is no groove wear or distortion to any of the music signals. Most tracks grade at or around excellent+ to mint-. There is some occasional surface noise on the quieter passages and some light ticks on the occasional track. I noticed four ticks on the fade out to Dear Prudence  and occasional light ticks on Mather Nature’s Son and Long Long Long. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Rocky Racoon, Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey and the easily damaged Julia play superbly as do most other tracks. All in all great analogue sound throughout and now very tough to to find mono audio in this condition. There are no skips or jumps.

A clean and fresh set of unworn mono labels. Side two omits the label text ‘An EMI Recording’. There’s is no writing to either label.

Side 3 EXCELLENT+ (Omits EMI)  Side 4 EXCELLENT+ (Omits EMI)

A clean and unworn set of these the very earliest white album mono labels omitting the label text ‘An EMI Recording’ and showing only light spindle trails. There’s is no writing to either label. The KT tax code is visible on side four.

Cover

EXCELLENT

An original 1968 1st issue top opening numbered sleeve (0360934) retaining much of its original freshness and shape. It still has the original robust feel to it and retains its original high gloss laminate sheen. Has aged very well and appears to have been stored throughout its life in a smoke free environment. It has a great set of unworn and undamaged corners. Very little to fault other than some laminate removal from the word ‘The’ on the ‘The Beatles’ and some light thumbnail creasing. The spine is undamaged with most of its laminate still intact.

Photos (+spacer) - EXC+/MINT-

Original and genuine 1968 photos in superb condition. Comes with original spacer

Inner-sleeves Excellent

Original 1968 black inners with no seam splits.

Poster Excellent

Original and genuine 1968 1st issue ‘lipstick’ poster. Signs of ageing. There is no writing to any part of the poster front or back and there are no pin holes or tape marks. Poster is fully intact with no seam splits.

Differences between the MONO mix and stereo.

Back in the USSR
The Mono ver­sion has louder piano and slightly different plane sounds.

Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da
The mono ver­sion has no hand clapping during the intro.

Black­bird
The bird sound effects are dif­fer­ent on the mono release.

Pig­gies
The pig sound effects are different on the mono version. The gui­tar is also louder.

Don’t Pass Me By
The mono ver­sion is faster than the stereo.

Why Don’t We Do It In The Road
The mono ver­sion has no hand clapping during the intro.

Sexy Sadie
The mono ver­sion only has one tap of the tambourine on the intro as opposed to two on the stereo

Hel­ter Skel­ter
Altogether a better version which is a minute shorter

Long, Long, Long
George’s vocals are double-tracked on mono version

Honey Pie
The mono ver­sion has a longer gui­tar.

I Will
The mono ver­sion has less promi­nent bongos.

Savoy Truf­fle
Mono has sound effects dur­ing the instru­men­tal break, and the organ is miss­ing from the last verse.

Long Long Long
Lead gui­tar is louder, espe­cially in the later part of the song.
