CONDITION

Visual

Disc 1

Side one: EXCELLENT Side two: EXC+ to MINT-

A fresh looking disc which still retains its original high gloss sheen. On first inspection in strong daylight no significant marks are visible. On closer inspection there are some general light handling marks to side one and the occasional light hairline which appears and disappears when angled in strong light. Side one is graded conservatively at excellent. Side two grades very close to nr MINT and there are no apparent marks when viewed in strong daylight. Even under strong halogen lighting nothing much is revealed other than whispy sleeve removal marks and super light handling marks invisible in most light. It would appear that the disc has received only a few plays in its history. In summary a superb looking disc and most rare to find a mono with no EMI credits in this condition.

Disc 2

Side three: EXCELLENT Side four: EXCELLENT+

Disc two is an impressive looking disc and has clearly only been played a handful of times in it’s 50 year history. There are some minor handling marks visible in daylight but nothing that is immediately apparent or that would effect play or could be described as a scratch. Under a strong halogen desklight some ultra light hairlines become visible.

Both discs lay 100% flat on the turntable.

Labels

Side 1 EXCELLENT+ (Omits EMI) Side 2 EXCELLENT+ (Omits EMI)

Side 3 EXCELLENT+  (Omits EMI)   Side 4 EXCELLENT+ (Omits EMI)

All four labels omit EMI recording. All labels are fresh and unworn with no writing or personalization to them. Each label has a minimum of spindle trails, indicating very little play. Conservatively graded at excellent+.

Audio

Disc 1  EXCELLENT

Excellent undistorted audio with rich analogue sound throughout. There is some low level surface noise in places and when played at high volume I noticed some ticks on the fade out to Dear Prudence and on the run out to Happiness is a Warm Gun as the record finishes. On side two I noticed some ticks on the fade out to Don’t Pass Me By. While My Guitar Gently Weeps plays through superbly as does the easily damaged Julia.

Disc 2  MINT-

Superb audio throughout with only the minimum of light surface noise in places. Savoy Truffle and Cry Baby Cry are absolutely stunning on this MONO copy. Grades at or around near MINT.

Neither disc jumps or sticks.

Cover

EXCELLENT-

An original 1968 1st issue top opening numbered sleeve. The cover has managed to retain its original white or cream coloured appearance and has little if no signs of yellowing, unlike most covers of this vintage that have ‘yellowed’. The laminate still retains its original high gloss sheen and is free from any scratches. However, there is bruising and some significant wear to the corners, most notably the bottom right corner which has a bend mark and some minor damage. The spine is clean and in excellent condition. The laminate over the word Beatles is intact and in pristine condition. Although short of an excellent grade, the cover has survived remarkbly well compared to most.

Inner-sleeves Excellent

Original vintage black inners dating to 1968. Fully intact with no seam splits.

Poster Excellent+

Original and genuine 1968 1st issue ‘lipstick’ poster in great condition. Some creasing but still retains its original freshness. No seam splits or pin holes or any writing to any part of the poster. Has clearly been stored away for most of the 50 years.

Photos Excellent

Original and genuine 1st issue photos positively dating to 1968 on the thicker card stock. A superb clean and fresh set with no writing or pin holes to any photo. Some light soft bending creases to the upper left corners but otherwise in near MINT condition.
