READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP Rubber Soul 1968 SCARCE UNPLAYED Straight Transfer in Shrink, NM!

Most collectors have never seen one of these before.  It’s going to give you the hardest time, trying to locate one for your collection in ANY condition.

I bought this copy sealed in 1983, during the Sound Odyssey sale, when they bought several unopened cases of Apple albums and 45’s.  When I saw what this copy was, I filed it away, never having played it.  It’s been stored away from light since 1983.

The Side 1 label has text layout that is a straight transfer from the previous green Target label, with double-spaced text for the album title, the band’s name and their individual names below. 

The Side 2 label is a rearranged transfer to accommodate the label graphics of the then newly-formed Apple label.  Side 2 features the “Subsidiary of…” text with the small white Capitol logo at the 5 O’Clock position.

**NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH the 1971 Winchester Apple labels, which are also straight transfers of the green Target label.  Now, those are hard enough to find.  It’s no small feat to get your hands on a 1971 Winchester Apple straight transfer either.  Start looking now if you want one.  See photo.

But this one’s nearly impossible.  It’s the very first Apple label for Rubber Soul, it’s out of the Jacksonville plant only, and it was out of production as soon as it went into production.

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  Both sides shine 100% store stock brand new.  Vinyl is Jacksonville’s thinner, flexible vinyl stock.

Plates--- W8/W14.  Letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- NM.  Shrinkwrap did a phenomenal job, keeping this cover in store stock condition.  All seams are muscular-strong.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover.  One straddles Paul’s hairline and cheek.  The other is due south, just below Ringo’s chin.  Original price tag is still affixed to the front cover.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Both labels look store stock brand new, NOT A SINGLE SPINDLE MARK BETWEEN THEM.

Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Sleeve presents as EX.  But it has light wrinkles and light record outdent from storage at the warehouse.  Next to no yellowing, if at all.  One side seam is split about 3 or 4 inches.  It was like that when I opened it.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original inner sleeve en route.

**If you’ve never seen this variation on the “Subsidiary of…” Apple label, you should know that it’s too likely that you’re never going to see another one again.**

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
