READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles LP 1967 Sgt. Pepper MONO First Pressing STUNNING Vinyl, EX and Complete!

Anyone can find a MONO copy of Pepper.  But they’re not going to be in such beautiful condition as this vinyl.

Some collectors know that the MONO mix of Sgt. Pepper is very different in spots than the Stereo mix, and that The Beatles have gone on record to say that they prefer it far better than the Stereo mix.

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  Side 1 has a long wisp of an angel hair.  Otherwise, the side looks unplayed.  Side 2 has one or two extremely light anomalies, otherwise, that side also looks unplayed.  This copy is gorgeous, shines like a mirror and is a good 96% glossy, brand new-looking platter.

Plates--- F1/F1.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- VG.  Cover has lightly to moderately yellowed and dulled over the 6 decades.  Tiny dots of crackled slick to the top edges, light shelfwear to the bottom edge.  NO SEAM SPLITS.

Gatefold--- VG+.  Some dirtwear across the top of both panels.  Not too bad.  Still retains full gloss.  NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Insert--- EX.  Surprisingly nice first-printed insert.  Issued on sturdy cardboard, which thinned as the pressings continued, until it was printed on a sheet of paper by 1975.

There are absolutely NO finger divots, which these early inserts are generally covered with when you find one.  Back has moderately yellowed around the edges.  NO Stereo catalogue number (SMAS 2653) is printed in the lower left “Printed in U.S.A.” box at the bottom left corner, as the Stereo inserts had.  However; that corner does have a small push-in.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Gorgeous labels.  First pressing MONO labels are easily identified because of the second song on Side 1 reading, “A Little Help From My Friends.”  Second pressings were corrected to “With a Little Help From My Friends.” 

And then, MONO was discontinued at the beginning of the following year.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Gradient red sleeve is present.  The white end of the sleeve has moderately yellowed.  Bottom has a center seam split about 2 ½ inches long.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: N/A

Listen for the following differences that are not on the Stereo mix:

1.  Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ backing vocals have a swirl effect added, which Lennon loved.

2.  The transition from “Good Morning, Good Morning” into the “Sgt. Pepper Reprise” is marred by George Martin’s pinky getting tangled in the tape during mixing, which still bugs Paul to this day.

3.  Just prior to Ringo’s drums kicking in on the Reprise, count in with Paul for a jarring surprise.

This vinyl is your keeper.  It’s beautiful.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
