READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles LP 1964 First Pressing A Hard Day’s Night MONO “I’ll Cry Instead” VG+!
We all know about sellers who make too big a deal over the far more common error labels, listing the track as “I Cry Instead.” Those sold in the millions upon this LP’s first week of release across the country. The scarcer copies have the corrected title, “I’ll Cry Instead.”
Vinyl--- VG+/VG+. Maybe not a keeper, this copy still shines an easy 80 to 85% new on both sides. Both sides have light, soft lines that are visual, but non-feelable. Side 1 has a small feelable scratch, ironically across the track, “I’ll Cry Instead.” There are several rotations where you’ll hear a soft tic if you’re listening for them, but nothing that could be remotely described as a pop.
Plates--- 1AH/1AK. Definitely first-run pressing plates.
Cover--- VG+. Structurally solid cover. Front has vibrant red colors with little to no dirtwear, and certainly no record outdent. Back cover has moderately yellowed. Moderate dirtwear also. Name written in ink pen at the top of the top right corner, and a price sticker from a used record store in the top left corner. NO SPLIT SEAMS. Not even almost.
Labels--- EX/EX. Labels have tiny dots of gloss bubbles that had popped during the cooling process, but they’re hardly noticeable. Still full 100% gloss, both sides. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Inner Sleeve--- VG. Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present. Original 1964 paper inner sleeve is thicker than later ones from United Artists, just as their covers were thicker, durable and better.
Sleeve has moderately yellowed over time. Light record outdent, a few finger divots. One side seam has split about 3 inches.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: N/A.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
