Description
In this auction:
· “IMAGINE” by John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band (comprised of the following depending on the song: Klaus Voorman, Alan White, Steve Brendel, George Harrison, Nicky Hopkins, Rod Linton, Ted Turner, Rod Linton, John Tout, John Barham, Jim Gordon, King Curtis, and Mike Pinder).
· This LP is Apple Records SW - 3379.
· “Imagine” was John Lennon’s second studio LP.
· This LP is considered the most popular of John’s works, and the title track is considered to be one of Lennon’s finest songs. In 2012, “Imagine” was voted 80th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.
· The “Imagine” LP also includes notable contributions from fellow ex-Beatle George Harrison.
· The LP in this auction is a FIRST PRESSING of this Apple LP that was issued September 9, 1971. We know this because:
1) The perimeter printing on the labels have “MFD BY APPLE RECORDS, INC.”.
2) “All Rights Reserved...” disclaimer is NOT printed on the labels.
3) The photo/lyrics die-cut paper inner sleeve is missing the copyright information.
· The SECOND PRESSINGS, also with custom Apple labels, were issued in September of 1975. Those labels have “ALL RIGHTS RESERVED…” printed on the labels and the copyright information was added to the photo/lyrics die-cut paper inner sleeve.
· Both of the first two issues of this LP were issued on the Apple Records label in CARDBOARD COVERS. The pressings after the Apple pressings were all in issued in poster-board covers. THE LP IN THIS AUCTION IS IN A CARDBOARD COVER.
· This LP was also issued with 1 of 2 PHOTO or POST CARDS that measured 4” x 6”. One photo/post card shows John and Yoko as characters from mythology, with John playing pipes and Yoko as a wood nymph. The other photo/post card shows John holding a pig by the ears imitating Paul McCartney’s “RAM” LP with him and a sheep. The PHOTO/POST CARD issued with this LP has John playing pipes and Yoko as a wood nymph. It is NEAR MINT.
· This LP was also issued with a 22” x 33” POSTER picturing John at his white piano. It came folded inside the cover. The POSTER is included and is NEAR MINT.
· The vinyl was issued in a DIE-CUT PAPER INNER SLEEVE that has PHOTOS, LYRICS, and CREDITS printed on it. This 1st PRESSING INNER SLEEVE without the copyright info printed on it is included in STRONG VG+ CONDITION.
