Brief Artist & Album/Single Info: "Give Peace A Chance" is an anti-war song written by John Lennon (credited to Lennon/McCartney), and performed with Yoko Ono in Montreal, Quebec and Canada. Released as a single in 1969 by the Plastic Ono Band on Apple Records (catalogue Apple 13 in the United Kingdom, Apple 1809 in the United States), it is the first solo single issued by Lennon, released when he was still a member of The Beatles, the and became an Anthem of the American Anti-War Movement during the 1970's. It peaked at number 14 on the Billboards Hot 100 and number 2 on the British Single chart. 

The song was written during Lennon and Ono's "Bed In" honeymoon in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. When asked by a reporter what he was trying to achieve by staying in bed, Lennon answered spontaneously "Just Give Peace A Chance". He went on to say this several times during the Bed-In. Finally, on 1 June 1969, in Room 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, André Perry recorded it using a simple setup of four microphones and a four-track tape recorder rented from a local recording studio. The recording session was attended by dozens of journalists and various celebrities, including Timothy Leary,  Rabbi Abraham Feinberg, Joseph Schwartz, Rosemary Woodruff Leary, Petula Clark, Dick Gregory, Allen Ginsberg, Roger Scoyy, Murrat, the K and Derek Taylor,  many of whom are mentioned in the lyrics. Lennon played acoustic guitar and was joined by Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers, also on acoustic guitar.

When released in 1969, the song was credited to Lennon-McCartney. On some later releases, only Lennon is credited; viz. the 1990's reissue of the album "Live In New York City",  the 2006 documentary The U.S V's John Lennon, and the 1997 compilation album "Lennon Legend, "The Very Best Of John Lennon" and it's DVD version six years later. Lennon later stated his regrets about being "guilty enough to give McCartney credit as co-writer on my first independent single instead of giving it to Yoko who had actually written it with me." According to author Ian MacDonald, the credit was Lennon's way of thanking McCartney for helping him record "The Ballad Of John And Yoko " at short notice.

LABELS:

The Green Apple Labels are Both in Great condition with NO spindle wear or spider marks to be seen anywhere I would easily grade these as Very Good++/Ex!!!!

VINYL:

Plays throughout absolutely brilliant, with no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are several surface marks and thumbnails. However these in NO way interfere with the superb sound quality. This Single plays up to and  beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from John Lennon. Minimal surface sound and no tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing single, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Very Good++/Ex!!!!

COVER: The Cover is a double sided Picture Sleeve made of a very light card with Flip Backs. There are No splits, tears or rips anywhere to be seen, though the previous owner have written their name at the top of the front side (Though it has faded to the point that it can just about be seen). This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Ex+ condition simply because of it's design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade it as Very Good++!!!!

COVER SUMMARY: Not seen often, this one is in lovely condition with only gentle clues of age, any blemishes mostly light. This classic cover should please many collectors.

Single Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint; the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus, plus)!!!!
