-
“THIS SONG” b/w “THIS SONG” by George Harrison
-
This is Dark Horse Records DRC 8294.
-
It is a PROMOTIONAL (PROMO) WHITE LABEL ISSUE.
-
As you probably know, PROMOTIONAL (PROMO) RECORDS were produced in VERY SMALL QUANTITIES and were released by the record companies ONLY to radio stations and DJs to use for on-air play. They were NOT available for sale to the public. Often, DJs wrote on the labels and/or placed stickers on them, and these promo records were often trashed after a period of time. Due to their small quantities produced and unavailability to the public, they have come to be VERY DESIRABLE to many vinyl collectors and fans of the bands.
-
This PROMOTIONAL SINGLE with WHITE LABELS has this printing on both labels:
PROMOTION NOT FOR SALE
-
One side is in STEREO and the other side is in MONO.
-
What makes this Promo Record really special is that it was issued with a PROMOTIONAL TITLE SLEEVE entitled “The Story Behind ‘This Song’”. That Promo Title Sleeve is INCLUDED.
-
One side of this PROMOTIONAL TITLE SLEEVE has details about the legal case of alleged copyright infringement by George’s “My Sweet Lord“ with The Chiffon’s “He’s So Fine” and George’s comments about the verdict’s repercussions to song writing.
-
The other side of this PROMOTIONAL TITLE SLEEVE has the lyrics of “THIS SONG” printed.
-
Both the Promo Record and Promo Title Sleeve were issued in October, 1976.
-
Check your copy of the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records, 6th Edition and you’ll see that this Promo Title Sleeve is a rare one and tough to come by. (In fact, this is only the second one I’ve ever had in my 45 years of Beatles vinyl collecting.)
-
The PROMO TITLE SLEEVE is in VERY NICE/VERY STRONG VG+ CONDITION with LIGHT overall wear and signs of handling that include several VERY LIGHT bends/folds and LIGHT disc impression (not ring wear). There are NO seam splits, NO tears, NO ring wear and NO writing on it. It is a SIDE-LOADING SLEEVE, not a top-loading sleeve like most 7-inch 45RPM single records.
-
The VINYL is in VERY NICE/VERY STRONG VG+ to WEAK NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) CONDITION with some VERY LIGHT/SLIGHT SURFACE hairlines/scuffs (NONE “feel-able” at all) and some VERY SMALL and LIGHT age-spotting on the Stereo label.
-
The WHITE LABELS are QUITE CLEAN (aside from the small and light age-spotting on the Stereo label).
A VERY NICE COPY of this George Harrison WHITE LABEL PROMO RECORD and UNCOMMON/RARE PROMO TITLE SLEEVE for someone’s Beatles and/or vinyl collection.
