George Harrision Single "MY SWEET LORD" A Label Demo ORIGINAL Light Apple from 1976!!!!

Originally Released on the Dark Green Apple Label on the 15th January 1971!!!! This entered the UK charts on the 23rd January 1971 where it reached the Number 1 slot and remained in the charts for a total of 17 weeks!!!!

This was the 1st official single release by George Harrison!!!!

This was George's First solo single, and Incredibly, George is the First to have a Number 1 as a solo Beatle!!!! This record is the 3rd ever Best-Selling single by an ex Beatle selling over 5 Million copies!!!! The release of this single was originally announced by George to be in October 1970, but this idea was dropped. George claimed he did not want the Single to affect sales of the Album it was taken from "All Things Must Pass", though it did NOT take the Disc Jockeys long to home in on this Track as the Obvious single Track from the Album and play it continuously, quickly followed by public Demand forcing a release early in 1971!!!!

In March 1971, the American publishers of the Chiffons hit "He's So Fine" launched legal action against George and Apple, claiming that "My Sweet Lord" bore more than a passing resemblance to their song. In fact George always claimed that he had the Edwin Hawkins Singers hit, "Oh Happy Days" in mind when he wrote it!!!! The case wound on for 5 years, eventually resulting in George being found Guilty of subconcious plagiarism, damages against him were awarded at the sum of $587,000!!!! These damages took another 5 years to be paid, and the debt was eventually cleared in 1981!!!!

This particular Demo was Re-Released in December 1976 to help promote the Album. "Best Of George Harrison"!!!! It has a new Picture Sleeve and Failed to re-enter the UK Charts!!!! Although this was issued 5 years After it's ORIGINAL release this is STILL a very RARE record to collect!!!! 

The Matrix, Mother and Stampers are:

Side One: 7YCE-21511-2. On the run out grooves are the numbers 1 and the letters P. As well as the KT tax code.

Side Two: 7YCE-21512-1. On the run out grooves are the numbers 1 and the letters RPA. As well as the KT tax code.

The above Codes prove this to be a First Pressing from 1976 of this highly sought after single!!!! Only 250 of these A Label Demos were produced and they were given to "Radio Disc Jockeys", "Record Executives" and EMI Employees to help Promote the sales of each Record!!!! These were NOT FOR SALE and should NOT have got through to the General Public!!!!

CONDITION!!!!

The Dark Green Apple Label to Side 1: is in Excellent condition with NO wear showing, Side 2: The White Apple Label is also in Excellent condition, if you look at my pictures you Will notice a small Black line close to the centre Circle, Please note that this is a piece of the plastic from the Disc showing through and NOT a split in the Label!!!! The Vinyl still retains that Gloosy Look and has clearly been Very Well looked after which is reflected in the playback. There are one or two "Tiny" marks showing on the Vinyl when held up to a bright light (though these have been caused by handling). There are no Pops, Clicks or Jumps anywhere!!!!!!!! I play graded this on a Linn LP12 Sondek through a Linn System (which is very unforgiving). The Playback was "Superb"!!!! The record lays perfectly Flat with no Warping!!!!

I would give this Record an overall grade of EXCELLENT!!!!

Please be aware that this Record is for the Label Enthusiast as opposed to the Listening Devotee!!!! These A Label Demos do NOT surface Often as once they are in a Collectors possession they as a Rule stay there. This is ONLY for sale as I have another Copy in Better condition!!!! Also ONLY 250 of these were Released!!!! That will give you an Indication to the RARITY of this Record!!!!

This Record comes supplied in it's Original Picture sleeve which has no Rips, Tears or Writing and would grade as EXCELLENT!!!!

I like to point out ALL or any Defects so the buyer knows EXACTLY what they are getting. They may sound a little off putting but I can ASSURE you they are tiny in comparison to the "RARITY" of this item. I am expecting a lot of interest in this simply because it is NOT something you will often see for sale. Look on Ebay or ANY Beatles related websites and you will find these Very Difficult to locate!!!!! Awesome!!!!
