Beatles George Harrison Dark Horse Apple LP in Shrink Wrap w/ Sticker

In this auction: 

·       “DARK HORSE” by George Harrison  

·       This LP is Apple Records SWAS-3418.

·       First issues were released December 9, 1974, and second issues were released in 1975. The difference in the first and second issue is the labels: First issues had blue & white custom labels and second issues had black & white custom labels.

·       The RECORD in this auction has BLUE & WHITE LABELS.

·       This LP with GATEFOLD COVER is in NEAR MINT MINUS CONDITION and STILL in its original SHRINK WRAP. There is just a bit of very slight/light wear on the lower right corner.

·       The Shrink Wrap has a LARGE 3 ½ inch diameter STICKER on it that lists notable George Harrison cuts on this LP including: “Dark Horse” (which was to become the title of his record label in the post-Apple Records era), “Ding Dong – Ding Dong”, “Maya Love”, and “Far East Man”.  There is also a “Korvettes” store price sticker on the shrink wrap.

·       The COVER has a 1 ½ -inch diameter Babaji at the top center of the front cover. First covers had a ¾ -inch diameter Babaji, but the cover was redsigned to enlarge the image of the Babaji.

·       According to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records, vinyl with blue and white custom labels are “normally found” with the 1st- issue gatefold covers with the ¾ -inch Babaji. HOWEVER, that is not the case with this LP that has blue and white custom labels with the redesigned 1 ½-inch Babaji cover. I can only assume that, with the short time period between the issuance of the 1st issues and 2nd issues, some first pressing discs were put into the redesigned 2nd –issue covers which explains why the term “normally found” is used in describing which discs typically are found in each cover.

·       This LP was issued with a CUSTOM INNER SLEEVE made of glossy paper with SONG TITLES/CREDITS. This inner sleeve has a 1-inch and 2-inch split on the sides and a 3-inch split on the bottom.

·       Other artists who play on this LP are: fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton, Jim Keltner, Nicky Hopkins, Tom Scott, John Guerin, Gary Wright, Klaus Voorman, Alvin Lee, and Apple recording artists Lon & Derek Van Eaton and Billy Preston.
