George Harrision Single "DARK HORSE" A Label Demo ORIGINAL Apple from 1975!!!!
Released on the 28th February 1975!!!! This single FAILED to enter the UK charts!!!!
This was the 5th official single release by George Harrison!!!!
This Track was released as a Preview for the "Dark Horse" Album!!!!
While "Dark Horse" is usually a reference to an Unlikely or Surprise race winner, George explained in his aotobiography "I Me Mine", that he actually did NOT know the meaning of that term, at this time!!!! His Lyrics instead refered to a man who carried on One or More clandestine relaitionships with Women; a "Dark Horse" in Liverpudlian terms!!!! The song drew on his Feelings towards his Disintergrating marriage to Pattie Boyd, who had Left him for guiatarist (and mutual friend) Eric Clapton!!!!
George had begun the Recording of the song at Friar Park, but it remained Unfinished when it came time to mount his 1974 American Tour!!!! With the album release date Pending, and George's throat wracked by Laryngitis the track was Re-Recorded quickly in an American studio, with his tour band, including Billy Preston on Keyboards!!!!
The Single was Issued in the US on November 18th 1974, reaching Number 15 in the US Pop Singles Chart!!!! The B-Side was a NON album track, "I Don't Care Anymore"!!!! It was Released as a Single in the UK in February 1975, with the album track, "Hari's On Tour (Express)", on the B-Side, but like the album it FAILED to chart in Britain at all!!!!
The Matrix, Mother and Stampers are:
Side One: 7YCE-21755-2U. On the run out grooves are the numbers 3 and the letters G. It also has X-48945-Z-5 etched into it.
Side Two: 7YCE-2160-1U. On the run out grooves are the numbers 3 and the letters RG.
The above Codes prove this to be one of the Very First First Pressings cut of this highly sought after single!!!! Only 250 of these A Label Demos were produced and they were given to "Radio Disc Jockeys", "Record Executives" and EMI Employees to help Promote the sales of each Record!!!! These were NOT FOR SALE and should NOT have got through to the General Public!!!!
CONDITION!!!!
The Dark Horse Apple Labels to Both Sides: are in Excellent Condition with No signs of wear!!!! The Vinyl still retains that Gloosy Look and has clearly been Very Well looked after which is reflected in the playback!!!! There are one or two "Tiny" marks showing on the Vinyl when held up to a bright light (though most of these have been caused by handling)!!!! There are no Pops, Clicks or Jumps anywhere!!!! I play graded this on a Linn LP12 Sondek through a Linn System (which is very unforgiving). The Playback was "Superb"!!!! The record lays perfectly Flat with no Warping!!!!
I would give this Record an overall grade of EXCELLENT!!!!
Please be aware that this Record is for the Label Enthusiast as opposed to the Listening Devotee!!!! These A Label Demos do NOT surface Often as once they are in a Collectors possession they as a Rule stay there!!!!
This Record comes supplied in a White (standard) Sleeve!!!
I like to point out ALL or any Defects so the buyer knows EXACTLY what they are getting. They may sound a little off putting but I can ASSURE you they are tiny in comparison to the "RARITY" of this item. I am expecting a lot of interest in this simply because it is NOT something you will often see for sale. Look on Ebay or ANY Beatles related websites and you will find these Very Difficult to locate!!!!! Awesome!!!!
