Vee-Jay Records VJ-522 - 1963
“From Me To You,” backed with “Thank You Girl,” was the second Beatles single released by Vee-Jay. When it released its first Beatles single, "Please Please Me," backed with “Ask Me Why,” Vee-Jay signed a licensing agreement giving them the right of first refusal on Beatles records for five years. Despite the failure of "Please Please Me," "From Me to You" was released as Vee-Jay 522, with "Thank You Girl" on the B-side, on May 27, 1963. Even though Cash Box magazine called it a "Pick of the Week" when it was released, it failed even more miserably than “Please Please Me,” and by the end of June, "From Me to You" had sold fewer than 4,000 copies and had failed to chart anywhere.
The Beatles Christmas Picture Sleeve was printed by Vee-Jay early in October, 1964, just a few weeks prior to the expiration of their Beatles' distribution rights. They did this in order to make all 11 existing Beatles 45's look "new". And it worked! Thousands of Beatle fans re-purchased singles they already owned, just to get the cool Christmas sleeve.
This auction is for an original Vee-Jay 45 of “From Me To You” backed with “Thank You Girl”, with the Beatles “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” Picture Sleeve. The Record is in Very Good condition, with worn labels without writing or stickers. The Picture Sleeve is in Very Good+ condition, with just a bit of wrinkling.
