KPS SOUND STUDIOS
Two Songs by Lennon/McCartney
Norwegian Wood / Girl - 1965 on a rare EMIDISC acetate (the same as the Beatles acetates of that time) Performed by 'Michael'.
The likely story behind this disc is that the two songs were recorded in-house at EMI (prior to the 1965 release of the Rubber Soul LP) to promote the opportunity for individual artists to undertake cover versions of two of the latest Beatles offerings (considered guaranteed hits) - neither, although later well known, were ever released as singles for the Beatles.

Both sungs are sung slightly in a Lennon style by an unknown performer (referred to on the disc as 'Michael') with only a piano for accompaniment.
Michael's identity is unknown but it would have been someone known to EMI or Eddie Kramer at that time who was available as a sessional recording artist / performer. This disc is a unique item, it has the heavy quality of all acetates being aluminium with a very fragile vinyl exterior which would have been pressed in the studio.
It was never intended that this disc would appear in public and like all Beatles-related acetates is considered one-of-a-kind and a very wise investment. The two songs themselves are quite likely unreleased and this may be the only recordings that exist in this form.  It is very hard to find Beatles acetates but they are considered gems as they can house unreleased moments from studio sessions. From the pictures you will also notice the two tracks were recorded at KPS Sound Studios, London - set up in 1965 by record producer Eddie Kramer.  This was a very basic, very primitive two track studio where John Mayall and The Kinks, amongst others, recorded - before Eddie Kramer went on to Olympic to work with The Rolling Stones, Traffic and Jimi Hendrix.
Due to the short length of time KPS Sound Studios were active, acetates from there, still in existence, are extremely scarce.  The likelihood of Eddie Kramer's own involvement in the production of this acetate is highly likely.
Here is a true example where EMI tried to put weight on the two individual songs to see if they had their own mileage as hit records and earners in the music industry.
Norwegian Wood was covered by many such as a surf version by Jan and Dean, Girl was a hit for the St Louis Union (reaching No11 in the UK January 1966), and was also covered by THE TRUTH on the PYE label (where Eddie Kramer worked before KPS Sound Studios).    The Beatles do not appear on this disc - although that does not take away the prestige of this item and the sense of history that goes with it. Unlike most acetates like this, this item plays very well both sides. There are no jumps, no major scratches, crackling or repeats. The audible sound comes through clear after having been checked and played through only once in my ownership. There is only minor hissing and small noises during play indicating the forty-five years this item has existed. No handwriting exists on the two EMIDISC labels which appear clear and unscuffed. Truly this is a highly desirable Beatles Collectors item with its own story to tell about its place in history.

HISTORY
Quite likely produced in 1965 as an EMI studio acetate to promote internally the opportuto record and perform two Beatles songs from that year.
The format for this studio acetate is exactly the same as a Beatles studio acetate from that time.
