THE BEATLES - 'A HARD DAY'S NIGHT'
On 19th March 1964, soon to become prime minister Harold Wilson attended a luncheon held by the Variety Club of Great Britain and presented The Beatles with the Show Business Personalities of 1963 awards. Images of him with the group appeared in every newspaper and some say, helped him to win the general election in October that year.
Harold Wilson became the only person ever to become British Prime Minster TWICE: first in 1964-1970 and then from 1974-1976.
We recently were lucky enough to purchase Harold Wilson's personal record collection from his estate and amongst it was this copy of The Beatles' 'A Hard Day's Night'.
The LP is an UNPLAYED UK 1st mono pressing dating from initial July 1964 release.
Both sides have the earliest 'chubby' fonted black & yellow Parlophone labels: PMC 1240
Each includes the 'Sold in UK...' text and 'The Parlophone Co Ltd...' rims.A 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the side 1 label.
Matrices: XEX 481-3N & XEX 482-3N
Stamper codes: 3/RPH & 4/RMP
Disc weight: 149g
Housed in the rarer unlaminated 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed, tri-flipback cover, with a mid-sized front mono indicator. Complete with original rice-paper lined 'Use Emitex..' inner-sleeve.
Also present with this copy is a genuine handwritten note (by persons unknown) on Prime Ministerial note paper which reads:
"Prime Minister.
Do you wish to keep this record!
I will in any case.. (illegible).. how excellent you think it is!"
Initialed with the date '31/5'.

Pristine deep gloss playing surfaces bearing just some harmless wispy paper hairlines from the inner-sleeve & a sparkling rainbow shine beneath halogen light

Believed to be UNPLAYED and our play-check uncovered no audible issues.
Cover: EXCELLENT
This unusual unlaminated variation is fully intact with clean front panel bearing some light storagewear but no major issues. There is softening to the right corner tips but no damage to either opening edge. The exposed rear panel has some age.related marks, chiefly some ingrained finger marks, maybe those of Harold himself? All flibacks are in-place and both seams and the spine are smooth & without stresses or splits.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENTClean & crisp with some gentle storage wrinkles but no writing, tears or seam splits.
