READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split.  Here’s a great lot of various label variations for anyone who needs them.

1969 “Subsidiary of…” Black Label, VG

Vinyl--- VG/VG.  That doesn’t mean it was tossed in the dryer with a pile of rocks from the driveway. 

Vinyl has a lot of scratches, but none that you can feel.  Will still be a play copy, and will probably benefit from a good cleaning.

Plates--- B18/A15.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this copy pressed in Los Angeles.

Cover--- VG.  Front cover has lightly yellowed, back cover has moderate yellowing and dirtwear.  But NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- NM/NM.  These are actually pretty rare labels with the single space between the title and band’s name.  NOT EASY TO FIND.  This is the copy that’s pictured in my books on flash drive for sale now.  I still have never found an upgrade.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve provided.

RIAA: 3

1969 “Subsidiary of…” Green Label Winchester, EX

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  There’s one VERY light line on Side 2.  The rest of the flaws are manufacturer’s defects in the vinyl on both sides.  95% brand new shine.

Plates--- W6/W6.  Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.

Cover--- VG.  Front and back covers have moderate yellowing and dirtwear.  Seams and spine have wear, but NO SPLITS.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Both labels look 1969-brand new.  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve provided.

RIAA: 21.  Rare pressing plant.

1971 Apple “Mfd. By Apple” on Side 1 Winchester, VG+

Vinyl--- VG+/VG+.  That doesn’t mean it was tossed in the dryer with a pile of marshmallows from the driveway.

Vinyl is 85% to 90% clean.  The flaws are mainly manufacturer’s cloudiness on both sides, plus an extra angel hair scratch or two.  Still a VERY nice play copy.

Plates--- H23/X7.  Hand-etched Delta symbol (or rifle) in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Winchester.

Cover--- VG-.  Um…ewwuh.  I don’t know why this guy’s records stayed so nice, but most of the covers wore out, just sitting in a garage.  Replace this cover.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Both labels look 1971-clean, with the exceptions of a couple of spindle marks per side.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve provided.

RIAA: 16

1976 Orange Label Pinckneyville, NM/EX

Vinyl--- NM/EX.  Side 1 looks nearly unplayed.  Side 2 has a few short scratches on the lip and into the first song.  Otherwise, this side has 95% original shine.

Plates--- J28/J28.  No Capitol insignias, since this copy was a consignment pressing.  Pinckneyville used to be the Decca plant, which pressed the consignment Decca pressings for Capitol in the 1960’s.

Cover--- VG+.  Front cover is nice and white, but the back cover has some light foxing.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Both labels look 1976-brand new.  Concentric ring is very close to the playhole.  Those are cut from Pinckneyville lathes.  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve provided.

RIAA: 16

1983 Black Capitol Retro Label SCARCE Virgin Vinyl Jacksonville, NM

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  Both sides look unplayed.  100% original shine throughout.  Virgin vinyl issues are rare.  It’s possible these were pressed in error, but one thing’s for sure.  When you find these, they’re 99.9% of the time on regular black non-virgin vinyl.  A stunner copy. 

Plates--- W2/W2.  Letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- EX.  Bright white cover on both sides.  NO SEAM SPLITS.  NOT EVEN ALMOST.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Both labels look 1976-brand new.  Concentric ring is very close to the playhole.  Those are cut from Pinckneyville lathes.  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve provided.

RIAA: None.

This set’s gonna be very cool for someone to open on Christmas morning.  Even if you take the one you need for yourself and wrap the other four as your gift to your Beatles collector.  Just say Santa took the other one.  He’s a total Beatles fan.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
