Beatles 45 Ringo Starr 1975 (NOT 1974!) No No Song MONO Test Pressing, NM!
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
Very strange test. I’ve never seen another one with a 1975 test label, I don’t think. The actual release date of the Goodnight Vienna album was November, 1974. That’s also when both the MONO promos and the STEREO promos were issued to radio stations. These were separate discs, because the promos’ B-sides were both “Snookeroo.”
The other very strange characteristic is that “Snookeroo” was assigned the earlier promo catalogue number, PRO 8060, which suggests that it may have been intended for the A-side. (The MONO promo follows suit, and the STEREO promo, with a completely different catalogue number assignment, also follows suit.)
This is the only case I’m aware of, where the test pressings were done AFTER the promos were issued to radio stations. The dead waxes on the MONO promo and this test pressing are identical. At first, I’d wondered whether this test pressing had been done for Ringo’s “Blast From Your Past” LP the following year, but that doesn’t make sense, since “Snookeroo” doesn’t appear on that album.
For whatever reason, this test pressing was made after the promos were the following year!
Kooky.
Vinyl: EX/EX. The only flaw is that there is a heat mark on both sides, which may produce a “whiff” for a few rotations. Otherwise, vinyl looks unplayed.
Plates: PRO (which is the MONO designation) 8062 Z1/ PRO (which is the MONO designation) 8060 Z2. Machine-stamped “TM-L-M” on both sides. I’m assuming that’s who mastered this test, since “Mastered by Capitol” is missing. This is also the case with the MONO promo 45.
Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this copy pressed in Los Angeles.
Labels: EX/EX. Labels would be NM, except that they were hand-labeled by someone.
Sleeve: Apple company sleeve in EX.
A generic white sleeve will be provided to protect your Company Sleeve during shipping.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
