READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split.

Not quite up to an EX grade, but certainly superior to VG+.  As collectors know, not only was this the last Beatles title released in MONO, it’s also the mix The Beatles preferred over the stereo mix.

There are a lot of differences, for sure.  My favorite ones are that the Sgt. Pepper Reprise starts with a jerky and sloppy engaging of the master tape, as if it had gotten caught on George Martin’s pinkie while traveling over the tape heads.  (Why he left that in is a mystery.)  The other directly follows it.  After four beats of the metronome on the stereo mix, Paul counts in.  But on the mono mix, Paul waits for six beats on the metronome before counting in.

No more spoilers.  The rest of them are your surprises!

Vinyl--- VG++/VG++.  Not a NM disc.  However; there are only about half a dozen tiny little lines on Side 1 like the one in the photo above, and Side 2 has less.  Plus some manufacturer’s cloudiness.  Both sides still shine about 90% brand new gloss.

Plates--- G9/F8.  Machine-Stamped letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- G.  Moderate to heavy ringwear to the front and back covers.  Top and bottom seams have heavy shelfwear.  Top seam is split about a third of the way in from the mouth, another third of the way from the spine toward the center.

**Jax had a fun little aspect to the back covers of their mono copies.  Because of the nature of mono copies having to chop off the stereo banner at the top front, the back cover features floating Beatles.  Have a look at their legs!  If you replace this cover, look for one with the floating Beatles.**

Gatefold--- VG+.  Gatefold has far less wear, if any.  NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Insert--- VG.  Original 1967 MONO inserts had high gloss and no catalogue number printed in the white box at the bottom left corner.  (Catalogue number was for the stereo copies.)  Has light to moderate record outdent, light creases and just a couple of finger divots.  Back has significantly yellowed.  But it is the original insert.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Beautiful flat-matte labels look freshly-printed.  Second cut reads, “A Little Help from my Friends.”  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG- Gradient red inner sleeve is present.  All three seams have splits.  The bottom seam has a very wide split.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

**The packaging leaves much to be desired.  But the LP is a perfectly respectable beauty keeper if you can’t afford a NM one! **

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
