Poster created by The Fool in 1967
for the grand opening of the Beatles Apple Shop in London.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire
a piece of genuine* 1960s Psychedelia.
The Fool were prolific in the 60's designing:
The colourful clothes worn by the Hollies on the cover of their 1966 album Evolution
The striking cover of the Incredible String Band's classic 1967 LP The 5000 spirits or the layers of the onion
The inner sleeve for The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The clothes The Beatles wore for the 1967 TV broadcast of "All You Need Is Love", and also the decoration of John Lennon's Gibson J160E acoustic guitar, which appeared in the broadcast
A huge 3-storey mural painted in psychedelic colours on the facade of the Beatles' Apple Boutique in London's Baker Street, as well as all the promotional material associated with the shop, including this poster and two others, the clothes stocked at the shop, and the bags provided to customers for their purchases. The mural caused a furore amongst local businesses and was painted over by civic order. Months later the shop failed and the staff were ordered to give everything away!
The bodywork on John Lennon's Rolls-Royce. An old woman in central London attacked it with her umbrella and called him a swine! (He answered by obtaining another Rolls, and painting it flat-black)
Decoration to John Lennon's piano
Decoration to George Harrison's Mini car and bungalow Kinfauns (including a custom fireplace), as well as several of Harrison's guitars
Decoration to Eric Clapton's legendary Gibson SG guitar and Jack Bruce's Fender VI (six-string) bass for the 1967 Cream tour of the US
Set design for Joe Massot's 1968 movie Wonderwall. They also appeared in the film's party scene
Paul McCartney's upright piano
This item has very minor marks top centre on the gold border right on the edge and very minor crinkling on top left corner, along with some scratches bottom left again on the gold border of the poster..but once mounted & framed behind glass none of this will be seen and the price reflects these minor imperfections. These - when available that is!! - usually sell for £120+ at auction houses like Christies etc..
*On the back of the poster is the copyright mark of Apple Publishing & Company Ltd, along with the printed description " designed by simon & marijke of 'the fool' " and the declaration of Trade Platemaking Services that it is a print of the original poster created.
Unless the poster bears this mark then it is not genuine!!!
Beware of later reprints!
(the paper is usually thicker and the poster itself
will usually be in "absolutely pristine" condition and
probably attached to a mount to hide the fact it does
not bear the original mark above on the back of the poster)

I will post worldwide for this item in one of two formats:
- In a 5mm thick tube further wrapped in bubble wrap and then inserted into an additional rectangular box.
- Between two sheets of 3mm mount board, wrapped in bubble wrap.
If you would like to send this as a gift I'm also happy to provide a mount for the poster with the correct aperture size for framing the picture within the gold border (not glued!!) and/or provide a frame (with/without non-reflective glass - though glass will add to the postage cost considerably!).
As an artist I understand the need for archival quality/acid-free materials when dealing with artwork of any kind and the mount and materials used to mount it will reflect this.
This poster was given to me by a collector friend of mine before he passed on, among other things, but I have never displayed it and feel it should go to someone who will appreciate its beauty by actually displaying it in their home as he did!
