Banjo Joe & Blind Blake "Can You Blame The Colored Man" / "Poor Boy, Long Way From Home" 1927

VERY RARE Early Paramount Records, 12354, Mono

Be on the lookout this week for rare LP's from Sweet Melissa Records!  Gus Cannon (more popularly known as "Banjo Joe") was an influential instrumentalist who, in the nineteen-teens, through exhaustive touring to backwoods medicine shows, singularly popularized the "jug band" sound in early American blues.  In 1927, Cannon donned his characteristic moniker and recorded a brief session with the ragtime blues guitarist, Blind Blake.

Dead wax: matrix numbers on both sides.  Black label with eagle logo. Vinyl is in fair to almost poor condition; there are considerable minor scratches and scuffs on this record.  If you are looking for an excellent copy of this record, this is not the copy to purchase.  While the record is certainly playable, with all the full dynamic and harmonic registers of the recording still preserved, do expect to hear much noticeable surface noise on playback.  All the same, Gus Cannon (before his work with his Memphis Jug Band) is an extremely rare artist to come by for original pressings, so please bid with confidence and take advantage of this incredible addition to the Sweet Melissa Records collection!  WE HAVE MORE!
