Description
The Butterfly Ball / Wizard's Convention 2 x LP + 7" I bought this limited edition double album when it was released on the Connoisseur Collection record label in 1989.
Originally The Butterfly Ball album was released in 1974 on the back of the success of the book of the same name. It features Roger Glover, David Coverdale, Ronnie Dio, Eddie Hardin, Ray Fenwick, Glenn Hughes, Tony Ashton and a host of others, so you can see why it is of interest to Whitesnake and Purple fans. Coverdale is featured particularly well on a song called Behind the smile.
The Wizard's Convention album was released in 1976 and again featured David Coverdale doing a fantastic track (Money to burn) that wouldn't have been out of place on some his later material with Whitesnake. Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes and the superb Jon Lord also feature. Bizarrely, so do the Chris Barber band.
Both albums are interesting side notes to Deep Purple's career and will be of interest to the fan who is searching for all side projects entered into by members of the band.
As you can see from the photo, it is a gatefold sleeve. It opens up with extensive sleeve notes detailing the two albums origins and has a detailed discography along with photos. You can also see in the listing photo that part of the limited edition included a free 7" single which features Roger Glover interviewed about the Butterfly Ball album on American radio in 1975.
The entire package is in good/very good condition.
Cover has some mild evidence of wear, a number of tiny pinholes in the front top left, but other than that no problems.
All three pieces of vinyl are very good indeed, only the very lightest of marks, all play beautifully.
