Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Misanthrophy Records 001

Ltd Ed White Marbled no.1108

'Hvis lyset tar oss' was released after Varg's imprisonment, and was the first Burzum release by England's Misanthropy Records. A big commercial success, it also represented the 'second era' of Varg's songwriting, with all the songs being written after his initial prolific period represented by his first two albums. The album sees Varg integrate synth work into his 'metal' songs to great effect, and also contains some of the most extreme vocals in the history of music. The last song on the album, the wonderfully emotive and mystical 'Tomhet', a completely electronic keyboard piece, also gives an early indication of the future direction of his Burzum project.

The album contains only four songs but nevertheless plays for three-quarters of an hour, all the songs being highly developed epics. The title of the album translates to 'When the light takes us'.

This was also the first album to feature all it's lyrics in Norwegian; as with Darkthrone, Varg felt that Norwegian lyrics were necessary to complement the underlying theme of the album - the 'spiritual death' of Norway with the Judeo-Christian arrival.

This comes in a gatefold sleeve with the record in mint condition, a ltd edition white marbled vinyl no.1108 also is a Misanthropy Records newsletter which came with  the lp.

1. Det som en gang var
