BUKKA WHITE – Memphis Hot Shots ORIG Blue Horizon LP / S 7-63229 (UK, Stereo, 1968)
Happy to present a fabulous copy of this classic BH release with tip-top vinyl, strong sleeve and faultless playback.
The single, front-laminated sleeve was printed by Quality Stationery Ltd on London and is in a fine EX- (Excellent Minus) condition. Don’t get me wrong here, many would automatically see this as at least a full EX sleeve if not higher but I grade regardless of age (so often you read “excellent condition for its age” meaning in reality, ‘quite tired and worn’) but this one is still sharp with only the following minimal gripes: a front crease alongside the bottom of the spine; a bump to the bottom left corner and a little wear to the opening edge corners (not heavy); beginnings of a thin nick to the top edge and some storage rubbing to the rear black panel. Other than that, strong, non compressed spine, good shine to the front laminate, excellent opening edges. No writing, splits, tears or scrapes. Gold ‘Stereo’ sticker to the rear. Should please most collectors!
The pale blue labels are superb, maintaining full colour with no blemishes, writing or other problems. Very minimal spindle evidence when viewed under strong light.
The solid medium to heavy vinyl is a real beauty. No doubt this has hardly seen any play AT ALL. I’ve viewed the surfaces of this disc in both broad daylight and under strong bulbs and apart from one tiny scuff to one side this record looks mint with full, and I mean full shine. So no scratches, hairlines, scrapes, nicks, dust pockets or embedded dirt. This has been very well looked after and deserves a fabulous M- (Mint Minus) grading. IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLLY LISTENED TO and plays superbly – important for these sparse blues recordings to be kept in such good condition and this one should not disappoint. No snap, crackle or pop, no hiss, distortion or loss of clarity/lack of definition. The play grade matches the visual one. Terrific.

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades. After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN? What is NM+? Or EX---? These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay. I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade. Excellent, by dictionary definition means‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
