Description
Welcome! Here is a first UK press of Budgie (MCA MKPS 2018). On this 1971 debut album, the lineup is Burke Shelley, Tony Bourge, and Ray Philips. This album has the original pink and red MCA label, plus the original date-coded Decca inner sleeve.
Matrix numbers and mother/stamper codes are:
Side 1: 7-LNMG-240-1L 1A.
Side 2: 7-LNMG-241-1L 1A.
Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?
Sleeve: The unlaminated single sleeve grades VG-. Both the front and the back of the very thin cardboard sleeve exhibit slight ringwear and soiling, and there is minor creasing and general surface wear. The colors are bright, front and back. There is wear to both the top and bottom edges, plus feathering to the side where the disc is inserted. The spine is strong, though. The sleeve is signed “Sleeve printed in England by Robert Stace.” Note that the lower left of the back has the early MCA logo (dropped on later issues) and does NOT have “EMI Records”, which was added on later releases.
Vinyl: The very thick, original vinyl grades EX. There is only occasional, minor background noise, but surely you will be playing this album LOUD and will not notice it! Each side has a couple of surface marks that do not affect play. Really, this plays VERY strongly!
Labels: Both labels are bright, with only minor grubbiness. Spindle tracking is minor on the Side 1 label; it is more pronounced on the Side 2 label.
Inner Sleeve: This album has its original plastic-lined blue and white inner sleeve, date-coded 8-71 and marked MADE IN ENGLAND R.S. This inner is in extremely fine condition, with only glue stains to mar the surprisingly bright white. There are no seam splits or lining tears.
And, in the end: While this example of a first-press UK Budgie is not for the perfectionist, it is a very serviceable example that should satisfy most people who will play it and PLAY IT LOUD! Please email me with any questions.
A Note on the Photos: Unless otherwise stated, any bright spots or glare in my pictures is from my camera’s flash.
Returns: Full return privileges (less shipping and listing fee) if dissatisfied, but I bet you won’t be! Please pay by PayPal. Thanks and good luck! About Me: I am not a dealer, but a longtime collector in the occasional process of dispersing my collection of English and German prog, rock, and blues albums.Shipping: I will ship to ANY country on Earth! Just be aware that, for whatever reasons, items shipped from the USA to some countries can require several weeks to arrive at their destination. Further, if your country of residence is known to experience occasionally difficult deliveries, please consider paying for signature-required delivery. Some sellers already mandate this; I do not want to make this a requirement – again, I am not a dealer – but if I have a receipt from the Vestal, New York, post office confirming my shipment to you, that is the end of my delivery responsibility.
Pursuant to my statement above that I am not a dealer, I do NOT gouge anyone on shipping costs. If you are in the USA, figure on $4.00 for good ‘ol Media Mail; of course, you can do Priority, Overnight, you name it.
For shipments outside the USA, I generally use the value that eBay shows for First Class Mail International, although if I believe that my packing – on which I pride myself – will likely knock the cost up to the next price level, that is what I will go with initially. If the actual price turns out to be less, I will post an immediate refund for the difference.
Insurance: If you would like, I will get an insurance quote for you. I pack things very well, but if you choose to not buy insurance, I will not be responsible if something nasty happens.
Namaste, everyone!
On Apr-06-14 at 16:22:52 PDT, seller added the following information:One more thing! I forgot to check the “Will Ship Internationally” box when I posted my “Budgie” listing. Inexplicably, eBay does not allow any changes (additions, in my case) to shipping options if a listing has a bid. So, non-USA shoppers, please be advised that OF COURSE I will ship internationally! Cheers!
