Budgie : In For The Kill! A1 / B1 1st Press MCA Rainbow Label 1974

This has to be finest example of this classic album that I have ever heard.  There is no interference on either side and the clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is stunning.  In all honesty it plays like it has never been played before, the audio really is so deep and strong.  Even the quieter sections play beautifully!  The vinyl is in superb condition also and it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive first pressing.

The fully laminated cover has also been preserved very well and has no obvious wear and the inner sleeve is in excellent condition also.

This first pressing has the A1/B1 matrix, MCA rainbow labels and the cover is always laminated on both sides.

Visual description

The vinyl is visually stunning and retains a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Looking under a bright light I can only see a very small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and even they are not easy to find!  The MCA rainbow labels are super clean with hardly any spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'In For Kill' plays with exceptional power and depth and Shelley's opening vocal section is easily as good as that.  From then on the sonic quality cannot be faulted - the clarity and definition is exactly how it would've sounded back in '74!  The 'raw' mid section has no background and the closing section is just as clean and strong.  Not even a single dust tick here and Mint is richly deserved.

With complete silence in the dead wax 'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' then plays with immense power and depth from start to finish with no intrusion.  A classic in every sense the clarity is also 10/10.  Already it is obvious this vinyl has hardly ever been on a turntable before.  This could not play any better.  Mint

In true Budgie style they follow up a dynamic number with a gentle acoustic track and 'Wondering What Everyone Knows' plays beautifully with no background and again Mint is an honest assessment of the the audio.

A couple of ticks in the dead wax and then the quiet intro on 'Zoom Club' plays to perfection.  As the volume picks up the quality does not drop and the opening vocal / chorus have no background either.  Another Budgie classic it continues to play to the highest standard possible through every section.  The 'heavy' mid instrumental is a prime example of that, it is 'as new' and that applies to the entire near 10 minutes!  Another Mint track with great work from Boot the new drummer of course.  A superb side of music and let's not forget this record is now 50 years old.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'Hammer And Tongs' is so quiet and the clarity is incredible.  I only 'noticed' a couple of very quiet statics, I cannot fault it, and it has the clean aesthetic quality of a CD but with the the warmth and depth you only find with vinyl.  The following 'heavy' section plays with supreme power and the first vocal is perfect.  It proceeds in the same way and the next quiet section plays so clearly with only 3/4 very quiet ticks and I do mean quiet!  The closing section has no background including the long fade out and this time I will grade as Mint-

The intro on 'Running From My Soul' has only a couple of barely audible background ticks at the beginning and the opening vocal has no interference whatsoever.  The quieter mid instrumental plays perfectly as does the final vocal section.  Mint-

'Living On Your Own' plays with stunning audio from the very first note.  The intro and opening vocal are 'as new' and it continues to play with a sonic quality that is second to none.  Running at nearly 9 minutes there is no need to describe every section as they all play to the same standard.  Ok a couple of minor statics during the quieter mid instrumental but that is not interference!  The long instrumental section that follows is fantastic!  Real power and depth and no intrusion.  This grades as Mint- although it does seem a little harsh to include the minus!  A STUNNING version with no distortion.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with very little wear and certainly nothing obvious.  The edges have no rubbing and the thin pinched spine is close to perfect with only a couple of those tiny creases running through.  All four corners are very clean with hardly any wear and the opening edge is in great shape also.  The front cover is unmarked with only a small number of faint edge creases next to the spine and the back cover is just as impressive.  A fine example.

The EMI inner has no side splits, minimal creasing and only a couple of very small faint marks.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
