BUDDY HOLLY

DECCA RECORDS DL8707

BLACK DECCA RECORS LABEL

MATRIX #MG6148T1

THIS IS A FIRST PRESSING!

Cover is in VG+ condition.  Still has a nice sheen.  Colors are bright and vibrant.  Minimal abrasions on front cover.  Some wrote "Rene Smith" in ink on Buddy's jacket across his chest.  Writing is very light.  "Rene" is 1" x 1/2", and "Smith" is 1 1/2" x 1/2 ".  A very light "A" is written near the right edge about 3/4 of the way down.  Total size is about the size of a quarter.  Top edge is split 3/4 of the way starting at the left side.  Spine shows significant wear.  Spine has a 1" split at the top and a 2" split at the bottom.  You can still read the part of the spine that says, "That'll Be The Day  Buddy Holly".  Bottom edge shows signs of wear.  There is a 1/2" split in the center.  Back cover shows advertisements for other Decca artists and Buddy Holly credits.  There is a stain running from the top to bottom on the far right side.  Stain does not detract from the ads.  There are two dark stains on the advertisement for the Bobby Helms album in the list of the songs.   One of the stains is slightly larger than a pencil eraser and one is slightly smaller than a percil eraser.  The top edge has very light stains.  Top left corner has "A" penciled on it.  Total area is 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" tall.  Someone underlined  "that'll be the day" from the left edge to the ads and also through the same writing.  It is very light.  You don't notice it until you look closely.

Vinyl is deceptive.  It has significant wear, scuffs and scratches.  At very close observation I found what looks like a crack on tracks one, two, three and part of four on side one and tracks one, two and three of side two in the same area.  I played both sides of this record and it played beautifully.  There was minimal surface noise and no skips.  Keeping this in mind, I placed the condition of this album at VG+.

Vinyl grading is usually based on the Goldmine standard and is as follows:

"SS" Still Sealed – For the collector that demands nothing but perfection.

"M" Mint - a near perfect or unplayed record.

"NM" Near Mint - in factory fresh condition, like new.

EX+ - close to like new with only superficial signs of use that don't affect play. Will satisfy all but the most vain and demanding collector.

EX - a used, reasonable copy. Shows slight signs of wear.

VG+ - There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility a few scuffs and/or light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still quite nice.

VG - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise, still plays great.

Good - In the record world, "Good" is not good! From here on down, we're talking about beat-up records!
