Label Conditions: Both immaculate: ultra clean and attractive with only the odd light and faint spindle trace and no wear around the hole area.

Cat Number: BL 7561.

Mode / Speed: Mono / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 138 grams. [These days, many modern Audiophile reissues are pressed on super-heavyweight 180 gram vinyl. Only a small percentage of ‘vintage vinyl’ was ever pressed this heavy. Records pressed in the 1960s averaged around 135 to 145 grams. Records pressed in the 1970s were usually lighter and averaged more around 115 – 125 grams. Some records pressed around 1973 were very thin and light due an oil crisis and shortage around this time. Some records were even issued on recycled vinyl from this period and sounded poor with crackle and surface noise evident from the very first play. If any record I buy is deemed ‘recycled’, I will never offer it, I have a very simple test to detect these records if I suspect this to be the case other than audible imperfection. Some records from this period were even pressed on other materials the most notable was ‘Dynaflex’, used by RCA around this time. Although inferior to vinyl, this at least mostly sounded reasonably acceptable but pressings on this material were wafer thin and flimsy. Beyond the 70s, many records often became thinner and lighter still but most played fine but were never quite the quality as from the ‘Golden Era’]. (This was based on ‘average’ weights for 50 records from these eras.

Brief Info: A very rare and elusive Brigitte Bardot UK issue, one of only two listed in the UK guides and highly valued. Only the second such example I have ever seen, this would not have sold well with most of the songs sung in French. Just check out that cover, its truly gorgeous. The music is quite poppy and the lady can sing, although she of course is better known for her acting. This record is a time capsule for this stunning French actress. What fan of BB could resist this one?, you are not likely to find it again in a hurry. The condition too is almost remarkable, again from a connoisseur’s collection. The record, now over 46 years old is amazing and plays practically as new. Consider what this could have been played on and subjected too – the owner bought most all of his records in the stereo format where available as he owned stereo equipment even from the early days. This was a mono only release and was not subjected to the perils of the thick heavyweight needle. With ultra clean and shiny playing surfaces with only ultra faint transit scuffs, this defies its great age and sounds magnificent. This is a connoisseur piece and very special - the cover would look beautiful in a frame - if only I could get it signed. A few small cover blemishes but at this incredible age, I think it’s earned to right too. Without doubt rare and I feel sure few were even pressed, for fans, this is a very rare opportunity.

This Cover’s Potential for Wear: Quite High.

Cover Grade and Format: Strong EX and very arguably better. A single format with front laminate that wraps around the closed edges on to three rear flipbacks. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse and includes the ‘Patents pending’ text.

Lamination & Front: What a stunning portrait of the lady – she actually reminds me of Raquel Welch in 1,000,000 Years BC (if like me, you’re old enough to remember). Lovely condition also with any wear or blemishing only mild. The only real wear as such is a half inch rub on the bottom right corner, more of a chip really. The laminate retains a splendid shine and clarity – the supreme picture of Miss Bardot can be enjoyed to maximum advantage. This has a little lifting on the bottom edge but this has little visiblity, the rest is fully adhered and strong. The cover is thick and quite robust and has avoided any significant creasing. A few spine cracks only but little else. A little mild friction rubbing but this is only (just) apparent under angled light. This vintage cover front simply blows away its great age. Just think, this was first issued at the same time as The Beatles ‘Please Please Me’ on the gold Parlophone label.

Cover Back: The back is unprotected hence a little mild grubbiness and darkening – but only light. It has a ‘Harlequin Records’ sticker on the back. This chain of shops put their stickers on albums and they made sure they were never likely to be removed without incurring potential bad damage. That’s why they are seen fairly often on old album covers. A few light marks but no creasing or ringwear. Again the same rub on the corner as the front. The flipbacks are neat and clean with no grime-lines on their ends and only one tiny burr on the bottom one. All firmly stuck down and with no damage. This back has survived the years well overall.

Top Edge: Just a small chip/rub to the right corner, that apart, unworn.

Bottom Edge: A half inch rub to the right corner as mentioned already, little else to fault.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Thickened with age with mild feathering but still quite neat and this is only apparent when viewed ‘end-on’. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: A superb yellow spine, the only blemish of note is a chip. This has removed the second ‘T” in BRIGITTE. All other text is present and unworn under the solid laminate.Straight, uncompressed and square, a few fine laminate cracks only.

Corners: Very light neat rubs to the spine pair. The top right has a small rub and the bottom right is has described a couple of times already.

Cover Summary: A very strong all round example of this time-piece early 60’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most realistic collectors. Worthy of another look, you will not see this often and rarely much better.

The Inner: The original polylined inner is included that is British patented with foreign patents pending. At or around EX with the lining fully intact and a neat window. One corner crease only and all edges unsplit. Slightly aged as you would expect but totally original.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EX++ and surely tempted to grade Mint(-) – simply incredible for a record this great age. I feel certain this has not been played more than a couple of three times and it has not seen ligh-of-day for decades. A superb visual copy that is super clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed on high quality vinyl. A few ultra mild paper or ‘transit’ scuffs that have no sound of course. Ultra fine surface traces under light but not a single scratch to be seen. Remember this is a mono record that was not likely to have been subjected to a mono record player. A remarkable example that is unlikely to be offered better - finding this at all will prove a big challenge. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippetts or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This amazing record plays up to its high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will match or outperform this very early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record - as stated, only the second I have ever seen. This copy will prove near impossible to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
